We're so grateful for community supporters like Legs Inn for their continued generosity and commitment to our community!

During their October 4–10 give-back event, Legs Inn donated $3 from every Polish entrée sold to Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity. This year's event raised $2,364 for our mission. Over the past four years, the Smolak Family has contributed over $10,000 to support our work through this annual event!

Thank you to Legs Inn for their ongoing support and to everyone who enjoyed a meal and helped make this year's event a success. Together, we're making affordable homeownership possible in Northern Michigan!

Our friends at Midland County Habitat for Humanity have been getting reports of scam calls pretending to be Habitat. Please know we will never make these unsolicited calls looking for personal information. If you get a suspicious call, please don't provide any personal or financial information.

If any calls seem suspicious, hang up and call us directly at (231) 348-6926 and we can let you know if the call was really from us.

🚨 COMMUNITY SCAM ALERT 🚨

We have recently been made aware of phone calls appearing to come from Midland County Habitat for Humanity that are actually part of a scam.

The caller reportedly discussed credit card debt consolidation services. We want to be very clear:

❌ Midland County Habitat for Humanity is not making these calls.
❌ We do not offer debt consolidation services.
❌ We will never make unsolicited calls requesting personal or financial information.

Scammers can "spoof" phone numbers, making the caller ID appear to come from a trusted organization even when it does not.

If you receive a suspicious call:
• Do not provide personal or financial information.
• Hang up immediately.
• Contact the organization directly using a phone number from its official website.
• Report suspicious activity when appropriate.

Please help us protect our community by sharing this post and reminding friends and family to stay vigilant.

Frequently Asked Question: What makes a Habitat home affordable?

That is a great question! HUD defines affordable as your housing payments not exceeding 30% of your gross monthly income. Habitat homebuyers have access to affordable mortgage products, down payment assistance programs, and a choice of homes without having to bid against other buyers. By using a mortgage with lower interest rates, lower down payment requirements, down payment assistance, and only purchasing the home for it's appraised value we can ensure that our buyers never pay more than 30% of their income for their home. At the heart of every home we build is a community of supporters who help make it all possible. Last month, we were lucky enough to have these supporters join us for our Built to Last: Donor Appreciation Evening, where we were able to celebrate the people making affordable homeownership possible throughout Northern Michigan.

One of the highlights of the evening was recognizing some of the individuals who have made a meaningful impact on our Habitat community. We were proud to celebrate this year’s award recipients:

Homeowner of the Year: Jessie Shaw
Volunteer of the Year: Jennifer Powers
Founders Award: Bill McMaster

Congratulations to each of our recipients, and thank you for the many ways you help make our work possible!

The evening also gave us a chance to reflect on the progress we’ve made, celebrate the partnerships that have helped bring our projects to life, and share our excitement for what lies ahead. With new opportunities on the horizon and a community committed to making affordable homeownership possible, we look forward to continuing this important work across Northern Michigan.

Thank you to our incredible donors for making our work possible and to Citizens National Bank for sponsoring our evening of celebration. Your generosity and support help us continue building homes, strengthening communities, and creating brighter futures across Northern Michigan. We couldn’t do it without you!

Looking for a meaningful way to make a difference in Northern Michigan?

Charlevoix County Community Foundation's Pick a Project Grant Catalog makes it easy to support local projects that matter to you, including Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to expand affordable homeownership.

Our $2,000 goal will help equip our construction team with reliable tools like cordless drills, saws, levels, and nail guns. As we’ve grown from building one or two homes a year to ten, fifteen, and more, these tools are essential to keeping projects moving safely and efficiently. Unlike materials used for a single home, durable tools can support our work for years, helping us build more homes and serve more families.

Your gift helps us build more than homes — it helps create opportunities for families to put down roots in Northern Michigan.

The Pick a Project Grant Catalog is open for donations through November 15, 2026. Explore the catalog and donate to Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity's project to help us build stronger communities, one home at a time! https://cthreef.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/grant?grant_id=39565
