The South Dakota Unified Judicial System is hiring a Deputy Court Clerk - Magistrate I in Custer for the Seventh Judicial Circuit and in Webster for the Fifth Judicial Circuit.

These positions assist with cases filed with the court clerk's office, including criminal, civil, traffic and other cases from initial filing to final disposition by developing and maintaining case files, assisting with scheduling and assigning hearings, assisting in courtroom proceedings, and implementing procedures for monetary dispositions; provide customer services daily to a wide variety of individuals and agencies; perform magistrate duties as assigned; and act on behalf of the court clerk in his or her absence.

Finishing touches are being made to the new Lincoln County Justice Center in Canton. Workers recently installed the chandelier in the main lobby stairwell. The new Lincoln County Justice Center is scheduled to be completed in the next couple of months.

The South Dakota Unified Judicial System is hiring a Court Services Secretary in Rapid City for the Seventh Judicial Circuit.

This position provides secretarial support for court services staff in a judicial circuit by managing an office; greeting and assisting those who come to the office; answering and redirecting telephone calls and email messages; maintaining pertinent records, files and documentation; collecting data and reports; preparing documentation; attending judicial proceedings and preparing and distributing paperwork appropriately; entering data into UJS computer systems; and providing caseload support as needed to facilitate office operation and staff’s efficiency.

Second-graders visited the Yankton County Courthouse and took part in a mock trial—"State v. Sanderson Sisters."

The students had to decided whether the "Sanderson Sisters" from the movie "Hocus Pocus" were guilty or not guilty of stealing Halloween candy.

Magistrate Judge Kasey Sorensen led the mock trial with assistance from Yankton Police Department Captain Sarah O'Farrell, First Judicial Circuit Staff Attorney Hayley Ridgway, Defense Attorney Nikki Brandt and Yankton County Deputy Clerk of Courts Sue Fields (as Winnie Sanderson).

The South Dakota Unified Judicial System is hiring a Bailiff in Sioux Falls for the Second Judicial Circuit. This is a temporary, non-benefited, on-call position.

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that while supervising and attending to the needs of the jurors, no person, including the bailiff, communicates with the jurors during the course of the trial except in the manner permitted by order of the court. This position also prepares the courtroom for jury trial, and maintains order during the trial.

Occasional travel to the Lincoln County Courthouse may be required based on operational needs. A state vehicle will be provided.

WORKS Clinic will offer free divorce, mediation and custody services for self-represented individuals in Rapid City on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.

Provided by the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law, this free service will be at the Pennington County Courthouse at 315 E. St. Joseph St. in Rapid City from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. MDT on Monday.

The South Dakota Unified Judicial System is hiring a statewide Court Operations Specialist for the State Court Administrator's Office.

This position develops and provides virtual and in-person training guidance and user support to clerks of court, court services officers and circuit court administrative staff in use of case management systems' (CMS) functions that are applicable to their work by gaining expertise in circuits' procedures and systems' capabilities to ensure training is developed according to needs and systems' capacities, questions are answered correctly, and computer problems are identified and resolved effectively.
