Portage Township's Trustee office serves Portage Township in a variety of ways, including:
Community Services
Fire & EMS
Parks and Recreation

The Trustee's office oversees the Bonner Senior Center, which provides a wealth of activities for seniors as well as nutrition and transportation help. Beautiful Haven Hollow Park and Field of Dreams Park provide Portage children of all ages a place for recreation. These parks are also host to many festivals and events throughout the year. The Blake, McCool, and James/Schrock Cemetaries serve as long standing historic sites of the beautiful town of Portage. Portage's Fire and EMS volunteers bravely keep our Township safe from harm. Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana’s Critical Repair Program helps eligible homeowners, affected by the summer storms, address essential repairs that may affect the safety, accessibility, and overall condition of their homes.

For neighbors who need help maintaining their homes but may not have the resources to make necessary repairs, this program can provide an important path forward.

Ah, November. A time for crisp autumn air, voting, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.
An action packed month, especially at the Bonner Senior and Community Center, 5800 Lexington Ave, Portage. The center is operated by Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy.
There is something for everyone from chair yoga to cardio drumming, pinochle to poker, bunco to bingo, crafts, shopping trips, dancing, games, knitting/crocheting and so much more.
The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to Noon Friday.

Join Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy and the Portage Township Parks Department for Breakfast with Santa, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Bonner Senior and Community Center, 5800 Lexington Ave.
Delicious food, festive crafts, games and photos with Santa are all in store.

Following the August 11 derecho, the Portage Township Food Pantry served over 1,300 Portage Township residents during the month of August.

This was made possible through a generous donation from Interstate Power Systems and the Second Step Foundation, as it helped keep our shelves stocked to provide food to families who lost theirs during the widespread power outages.

We are proud to present Interstate Power Systems and the Second Step Foundation with a proclamation recognizing their generosity and support for our community. Thank you for being there for our neighbors when they needed it most!

Portage Fire Department and J&J’s Pizza Shack are teaming up for our Smoke Detector Blitz TONIGHT, Friday, October 30, from 5–8 p.m., or until coupons run out!

City of Portage residents:
🚒 Order a pizza for delivery from J&J’s Pizza Shack at 6275 Central Avenue during the event.
🚒 Portage firefighters will visit your home to check your smoke detectors.
🚒 Show an installed, working smoke detector and receive a coupon for a FREE pizza on your next visit to J&J’s!

Need a working detector? Firefighters will have batteries and smoke detectors available at no cost, while supplies last.

Thank you to J&J’s Pizza Shack for partnering with us to keep Portage homes safer. Working smoke alarms save lives!
