Some of NRCA’s most important work happens before a crisis ever begins.

Community Action includes helping neighbors through urgent moments. But it also means providing knowledge, support, and practical tools that can help individuals and families build greater stability for the future.

Across NRCA:

📚 Head Start combines early education with health, nutrition, family support, and opportunities for parents to take an active role in their child’s learning.

🏠 Housing counseling and renter education help neighbors better understand housing options, rights, responsibilities, and the rental process.

🩺 CHIP emphasizes prevention and early intervention through home-based support, parenting education, and connections to health care.

🧭 VACARES helps people returning from incarceration meet immediate needs while building toward employment and greater self-sufficiency.

Different programs. One shared purpose: helping people build knowledge, confidence, stability, and opportunity.

Because New River Community Action's mission isn’t only about helping people get through today. It’s also about creating stronger possibilities for tomorrow. 💙

Happy Head Start month to our team at Head Start, a program of New River Community Action and all of our Head Start families! 💙

Did you know Head Start supports more than just a child's education? 💙

It's a child gaining confidence, a parent finding support, and a family gaining access to resources that help them thrive.

For more than six decades, Head Start has opened doors to opportunity for millions of children and families. And across Virginia, that impact continues every day.

This Head Start Awareness Month, we're celebrating the people, programs, and communities that make it all possible. Because when we invest in children and families, we're investing in a brighter future for everyone.
