⏰ Fall Back & Stay Safe!

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 1, at 2:00 a.m. As you turn your clocks back one hour, take a few extra minutes to check your smoke alarms.

A simple reminder from the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM):

🔴 Test all smoke alarms to make sure they’re working properly.

🔴 Replace batteries in alarms that use replaceable batteries, if needed.

🔴 Make sure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas.

🔴 Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older.

An extra hour of sleep is nice. Knowing your family is protected is even better!

Stay safe, enjoy the extra hour, and make fire safety a priority this weekend.

NFPA standards are meant to establish a baseline of safety and operational performance, but many departments assume adoption is an all-or-nothing decision – and that's one of the most misunderstood aspects of how these standards actually work. At approximately 10:33 a.m. Rensselaer Falls Fire and Rensselaer Falls Rescue were dispatched to a “water incident”. 2 kayaks had overturned in the water. The occupants were rescued without incident and returned safely to shore along with two other hunters. Both people who went into the water were evaluated by Rensselaer Falls Rescue, Canton Rescue, and Ogdensburg Rescue. We were also assisted on scene by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, New York StateDepartment of Environmental Conservation Police, The New York State Police with their airboat, and The New York State Forest Rangers, and County Car 4 Jeff Hammond. The coordinated response had a very successful outcome. Thank you to all of the partnering agencies involved. The scene was cleared at 12:18 p.m.
