As Halloween creeps closer, it’s crucial to prioritize safety to ensure a fun and spooky night for everyone.

• Be Visible: Wear bright clothing and add reflective tape to costumes. Carry flashlights or glow sticks to help drivers see you.

• Travel in Groups: Stick together with friends or family and stay in familiar, well-lit areas.

• Stay Alert: Keep your phone ready to call in anything suspicious. Ensure someone knows your route.
• Car Safety: Make sure drivers see you by a
voiding dark clothing and being cautious when crossing the street.

• Inspect Treats: Wait until you're home to check all candy before indulging.

𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬:
• Drive slowly in & around neighborhoods & streets.

• Don't drink and drive. Drunk driving incidents increase on holidays, including Halloween.

• Watch for children who may dart out into the street, and always yield to pedestrians. If you see one child, there are likely more ready to cross.

And don’t forget, October 30th is National Candy Corn Day! Whether you love it or hate it, candy corn is a classic Halloween staple that adds a splash of color to the festivities. Enjoy the sweet fun and have a safe Halloween! 👻🎃

𝑫𝒂𝒚𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 & 𝑨𝒅𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌!

In just a couple weeks we will be rolling back our clocks for Daylight Saving Time which means shorter days and longer nights.

Take this as an opportunity to check your outdoor lighting and make sure your house numbers are visible so first responders can find you quickly in an emergency. And if that’s not enough motivation, think of your Amazon and Uber Eats drivers. We know you want them to find your house! 😄

• Make sure your porch, driveway, and garage lights are working.
• Adjust timers or add motion-sensor or photo-sensitive lights to keep your home well-lit.
• Check that your house numbers are easy to see from the street.
• If enlarging your house numbers isn’t possible, consider using fluorescent paint along your driveway or curb for extra visibility.

If you can see your address, so can we!

We’re proud to see our Communications Manager, Meeghan Black, recognized for her work with the Behind the Badge Foundation’s Line of Duty Death Response Team. Thank you, Meeghan, for the experience, dedication, and compassion you bring not only to our department, but to the law enforcement community as a whole.

We are honored to spotlight Meeghan Black, who serves as a Public Information Officer with Behind the Badge Foundation’s Line of Duty Death Response Team (LoDDRT). Meeghan is the Communications Manager for Renton Police Department, WA and brings extensive experience in public safety communications and community engagement to her role.

Meeghan’s connection to Behind the Badge Foundation began during her time as the Public Information Officer for the Bellevue Police Department following the tragic loss of Officer Jordan Jackson. During that difficult time, Behind the Badge Foundation was invited to help guide and support the agency through the memorial planning process. The structure, experience, guidance, and compassion of the team helped make an incredibly painful moment more manageable for everyone involved and left a lasting impression on Meeghan.

Inspired by that experience, Meeghan quickly said yes when asked to become involved with the response team so she could provide the same level of support to other agencies facing loss. As part of the LoDDRT, she assists fellow Public Information Officers during line-of-duty death responses while remaining ready to help wherever the team needs her most.

For Meeghan, one of the most meaningful aspects of this work is having experienced the team’s support firsthand. During a stressful and sad time, Behind the Badge Foundation members lifted her agency up and helped put on an amazing funeral for their fallen colleague. That experience reinforced the importance of compassion, professionalism, and steady guidance during the most difficult moments for agencies and families.

Outside of the response team, Meeghan enjoys hiking, reading, cooking, listening to music, and spending time outdoors.

Thank you, Meeghan, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
