🚨 PUBLIC NOTICE — CANINE PARVOVIRUS (PARVO)
Roosevelt City Animal Shelter has confirmed a positive case of canine parvovirus (parvo) in a puppy currently housed at our facility.
Parvo is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening virus that affects dogs, particularly puppies and those that are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. The virus spreads through infected f***s and contaminated environments and can be carried on shoes, clothing, and other surfaces. It can remain infectious in the environment for extended periods.
⚠️ IMPORTANT PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
We strongly encourage all pet owners to take the following precautions:
🐾 KEEP UNVACCINATED PETS OUT OF PUBLIC AREAS. Puppies and dogs that are not fully vaccinated should not be taken to dog parks, public parks frequented by dogs, pet stores, or other high-traffic areas where they may be exposed to unfamiliar dogs or contaminated surfaces.
🐾 KEEP YOUR PETS UP TO DATE ON VACCINATIONS. Parvo is preventable through proper vaccination. Puppies require a series of vaccinations to develop adequate protection, and adult dogs should remain current on their recommended boosters.
🐾 KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS. Symptoms of parvo include vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), lethargy, loss of appetite, and dehydration. If your dog displays these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately and notify them before bringing your pet into the clinic.
🐾 PRACTICE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP. Keep your dogs properly contained, clean up pet waste, avoid contact with unfamiliar or sick animals, and limit unnecessary exposure to shared animal areas.
🏠 TEMPORARY SHELTER INTAKE RESTRICTIONS
Due to the confirmed parvo case and the shelter currently operating at maximum capacity, Roosevelt City Animal Shelter will be temporarily pausing new dog intakes for an initial period of 14 days while necessary precautions are taken to protect the animals in our care.
Animal Control will continue receiving reports of stray animals and public safety concerns. Residents should contact Duchesne County Central Dispatch at 435-722-4558 to report stray animals.
Please do not bring stray or surrendered dogs directly to the shelter without prior authorization.
💉 AFFORDABLE VACCINATION OPTIONS
