RUTLAND STREETLIGHTS UPDATE đź’ˇ
Following the Spring 2026 Town Meeting, the Town of Rutland adopted a reduced-service budget. This year’s streetlight funding covers roughly three months of service, rather than a full year. Town-paid streetlights are scheduled to shut off on November 23, 2026.
Two options could keep some lights on:
💡💡 1. SPECIAL TOWN MEETING ON NOV 19th: Voters will consider transferring $8,500 from an existing Town budget line to keep selected public safety priority lights on through June 30, 2027. This would not restore service to all streetlights. If the article does not pass, priority lights will turn off on November 23rd unless adopted.
Special Town Meeting will take place on November 19th at 6 PM at Glenwood Elementary School (65 Glenwood Road).
💡💡 2. ADOPT-A-LIGHT BY NOV 20th: Residents and businesses can request to take over an individual streetlight’s National Grid bill for approximately $13/month per light (National Grid will confirm the exact amount). Neighbors can share the cost, but one account holder must be responsible for the bill.
The Town has put together a map for residents to see streetlights available for adoption. Submit a request through https://bit.ly/Rutland-AdoptALight by Nov 20th with your contact information, the light’s location, pole number, and National Grid location ID. The Town will assist with the transfer.
