August 31, 2026 is International Overdose Awareness Day. Help us End Overdose.

Someone struggling with substance use may not always ask for help.

You may notice changes in their mood or behavior.

They may withdraw from family and friends.

Responsibilities may start being neglected.

Their appearance, routines, relationships, or finances may change.

These signs do not always mean substance use is the cause, but they can be a reason to check in.

Ask how they are doing. Listen without judgment. Let them know support is available.

Sometimes the first step toward help is someone caring enough to ask.
