Last week, district administrators traded their offices for classrooms as part of DD4’s first ever Walk a Mile in My Shoes experience. The goal was to build stronger connections between district leadership and classroom teachers by giving leaders a firsthand look at what a day in the classroom really looks like.
For some of our leaders, it was a return to where their careers began. Others came to DD4 from fields outside of education and brought a fresh perspective to the experience. Either way, everyone walked away with a deeper appreciation for what happens in our classrooms every day.
The reflections they shared say it all:
“There is a learning moment in almost every minute of their day.”
“It was refreshing to see students actively engaged in the learning process. Outstanding class!”
“This experience truly warmed my heart and reminded me of why I have committed my life’s work to education.”
Leaders came away impressed by the planning behind every lesson, the patience and time management of our teachers, and students who were engaged, well behaved, and full of meaningful questions. They also noticed the thoughtful details that make a big difference, from how centers are arranged in the room to the songs students sing as they rotate through activities.
A huge thank you to the teachers who opened their classrooms and made this possible. We can’t wait for the next round this spring!
