⭐️ Brennan Young Named 2026-27 Regional Teacher of the Year ⭐️
South Salem High School's special education teacher was recognized for building connections, a sense of belonging, and opportunities for students.
Brennan Young, a Special Education teacher at South Salem High School in Salem-Keizer Public Schools, has been named 2026-2027 Regional Teacher of the Year. Brennan is one of 17 educators from across Oregon selected for the honor through the Oregon Teacher of the Year program, a partnership between the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Lottery.
At the heart of Brennan's work is a focus on connection. He creates opportunities for students to build relationships with their peers, participate in their community, and recognize the value they bring to the world around them.
"Connecting my students with their peers and their community is at the foundation of my work," Brennan shared in his application. "The growth that results from these connections is both visible and lasting."
Brennan was nominated by a parent who described the difference his approach has made for their child, including greater participation in school and the community, and significant progress toward educational goals.
Regional Teachers of the Year are selected for qualities including leadership, instructional expertise, commitment to equity, community involvement, and professional growth. Each regional winner also receives a $1,000 award through the Oregon Lottery's partnership with the program.
Congratulations to Brennan on this well-deserved recognition and for the connections he continues to build with students, families, and the South Salem High School community!
