A recent City report shows parking meter funds are turning on the street lights in Uptown while the backlog is growing in the rest of the City.

A new City audit shows that parking meter revenue from Community Parking Districts, including Uptown, paid for streetlight repairs right here in our neighborhood this past year. Parking districts saw about 2,100 repair requests closed and the backlog in Uptown cut by roughly 19%, while the Citywide backlog nearly tripled! About 71% of all streetlight repairs citywide in FY2026 happened in the three Council Districts that have parking districts,

While these stats are not ideal for the rest of the City, brighter streets in Hillcrest due to parking meters mean safer sidewalks, a livelier nightlife, and a more welcoming neighborhood for everyone.

Calling all Hillcrest businesses: let’s back the San Diego High Cavers!

The San Diego High School Cavers basketball team, right on Park Boulevard, is looking for local sponsors for the 2026–27 season. Your support helps cover tournament fees, uniforms and practice gear, travel gear, game-day needs, and the end-of-season banquet and awards.

Sponsorship levels range from $1,000 through to supporting one family for $50! Sponsors are recognized on the team’s 2026–27 season schedule poster, displayed at San Diego High and at participating businesses. Select levels also get a shout-out on Cavers Basketball social media.

San Diego Police Department Junior Cadet Program is now accepting applications for middle school students in grades 6–8!

This year-round program helps kids build leadership skills and confidence, serve their community, and form positive relationships with police officers and fellow students through teamwork, physical fitness, and community service projects.

The program now meets at three locations on three different days, so families can pick the location and schedule that work best for them.

Lately we’ve been hearing from neighbors, business owners, and visitors about how clean and welcoming Hillcrest is looking, and that’s thanks to the hard work of the HBA Clean & Safe team.

Every single week, our crew is out on the streets: Picking up sidewalk trash, Emptying public trash cans, patrolling the neighborhood to keep everyone safe, and removing graffiti quickly so our storefronts and streets stay looking their best

What a night, Hillcrest! Thank you to everyone who came out to the HBA Annual Meeting at R Place Bar & Eatery last week! The turnout was fantastic and the energy in the room was even better. It was a great reminder of how much our community shows up for Hillcrest.

We were honored to be joined by Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe, Akilah Weber Pierson, and Congressman Scott Peters. Thank you for your continued support of our neighborhood and our small businesses.

A huge thank you to our hosts at R Place for the warm welcome, delicious bites, and first round! And thank you to every business owner, property owner, neighbor, and partner who joined us to celebrate the past year and look ahead to an even brighter one.

The Hillcrest Business Association continues to strongly support the City of San Diego 's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) program, and we need your help to keep it in place. Yesterday a City Council Committee threatened to have the cameras removed!

Reach out to members of the City Council today and let them know if you support the cameras!

In recent years people came to neighborhood to terrorize us and attack us and the ALPR technology caught them. Without this technology these people would have gone free.

The facts are:
>> Drive-by pellet gun attacks (2024): After a string of drive-by attacks that injured people outside our businesses, ALPR identified the suspect vehicle, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects on hate crime charges.
>> Hate graffiti (2024): Hate-motivated vandalism at Fifth Avenue and Robinson was solved when security footage was run through the ALPR system, leading to arrest warrants for two suspects.
>> Egg attacks (June 2026): When a carload of people pelted Hillcrest businesses and pedestrians, ALPR located the vehicle in Pacific Beach within hours and four people were arrested.

Citywide, SDPD reports the technology has helped solve more than 900 cases including child kidnapping and hate crimes.

Welcome to the 2026 HBA Board! Last week the HBA held its 2026 Board Elections. Our membership turned out and voted, and we welcomed new and returning leaders to our organization.

The Hillcrest Business Association is proud to welcome three new members to our Board of Directors, each bringing fresh energy and a deep commitment to our neighborhood: Brian Casey from Christopher Michael Hair and Makeup, Skyler McCurine from Edward Jones, and Hoa Nguyen from Asian Bistro.

We’re also grateful to our returning board members for continuing to lead and serve Hillcrest: Paris Sukomi Max from Inside OUT, Gary Wong who is a local Property Owner, Glenn Younger from Grah Security, Adam Gilman from Gilman Advisors, and Sheila Kazemaini from UClick Properties LLC.

Our board is made up of the business and property owners who make Hillcrest the vibrant, welcoming place it is. Thank you all for volunteering your time and expertise to keep our neighborhood thriving!
