Pride season is almost here — and we want to CELEBRATE everything Hillcrest has in store!

This Memorial Day, Hillcrest was looking more patriotic than ever — and it takes a village!

A huge thank you to the Hillcrest All-Inclusive Kiwanis Club volunteers who roll up their sleeves to install them throughout the neighborhood every year. The Hillcrest Business Association owns the beautiful flag collection and stores them for the neighborhood.

Together, they ensure our streets honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. Perhaps you saw the flags waving proudly across Hillcrest this Memorial Day weekend and it encouraged you to take a moment to remember why they fly.

Sexy streets are real. Hillcrest gets yet another block of new sidewalks thanks to our parking meter money being re-direct to projects in Hillcrest. You have to give Mayor Todd Gloria credit for this one. New sidewalks are such a rare thing outside new development.

Following last week's tragic event in San Diego, we want to ensure our community has access to support resources. If you or someone you know is struggling, please don't hesitate to seek help. SDPD's media team has put together a dedicated resource page with links for the public:

Hillcrest small business owners can expand their storefronts onto the sidewalk.
The Public Right-of-Way Enhancement Program (in partnership with the City of San Diego) lets eligible first-floor businesses use the sidewalk space in front of their shop for:
>> A-frame signs to promote your hours, menu, or specials
>> Outdoor product displays (flowers, art, clothing, books & more)
>> Outdoor dining areas for food & beverage businesses
It's a great way to draw foot traffic, beautify the streetscape, and grow your business — legally! While many business people place items on the sidewalk without a permit, if there was an issue, they risk their insurance dodging out. This is a low cost way to get a permit.

It's almost Bike Anywhere Day~ and Hillcrest is a big part of it.

Dust off your bike and hit the road on Thursday, May 21 — whether you're heading to work, school, a lunch date, or just out for the ride. Grab a free t-shirt at Hillcrest pit stops (or any of the 100 pit stops across the San Diego region). The Hillcrest stops are at Normal and University or at Snooze on Fifth at Washington.

✨ Keeping Hillcrest Sparkling Clean! ✨

The Hillcrest Business Association power washes almost 40 blocks of sidewalks every single month. Most of the action happens in the first two weeks (and in the middle of the night) — so if you've noticed your block looking extra fresh lately, now you know why! Check out these recent pictures of our power washing crews out early in the mornings.

And it doesn't stop there. Each month, select blocks receive special attention to make sure every corner of our neighborhood shines. Clean streets mean a welcoming community for residents, visitors, and businesses alike. Businesses should have received a door hanger on the morning their sidewalks were cleaned.

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon is coming through our neighborhood on May 30th — and we are HERE for it! Tens of thousands of runners will be passing right through Hillcrest as part of San Diego's most iconic race weekend.

What does that mean for you? Expect road closures in the area during the early morning hours. Plan ahead, let your customers know, and be patient with your commute.
