On the ground visiting farms in California’s Central Valley 🌾

🧑‍🌾 Regional Administrator Mike Martucci is with the Valley Air District, NFL - Nisei Farmers League, Fresno County Farm Bureau, Western Tree Nut Association, Cauzza Growers, and California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association visiting growers who are both feeding the country and working towards improving air quality across Central Valley.

🤝 Through strong partnerships, EPA is exploring how cleaner equipment and more efficient farming practices can support agricultural operations while improving air quality in farming communities.

: California’s Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world, supplying a major share of the nation’s fruits, vegetables, and nuts!

: The Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach handle about a third of all U.S. container imports!

Regional Administrator Mike Martucci is in Southern California this week meeting with port leaders to see how this major trade hub is improving air quality while keeping goods moving!

The Ports of LA and Long Beach are among the first major ports in the nation to use cleaner truck and cargo equipment! Together, we are working towards a more resilient future by cutting air pollution, expanding cleaner technologies, building local job opportunities, and upgrading infrastructure across port operations and nearby communities.

📢 EPA recently announced the Superfund Solutions Initiative to accelerate cleanups of contaminated sites around the country!

🌄 Here in the Pacific Southwest, we and our partners are moving 18,000 cubic yards of uranium mine waste to a safe location within the remote Lukachukai Superfund Site on Navajo Nation. Restoration efforts in this area benefit the Navajo Nation, who use the land for livestock grazing, recreation, and cultural traditions.

🦺 EPA also enacts immediate site protections to prevent acid mine drainage from harming local wildlife, like at California’s Afterthought Mine Superfund Site.

: EPA leads trainings for Tribes to better manage their waste and promote resource conservation through recycling, recovery, reduction, clean up, and elimination.

🤝 Region 9 teamed up with the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians of California to host eleven Tribes from four states to assess waste, crunch data, and sort materials hands-on!

🙌 Kudos to the Middletown Rancheria for strengthening their solid waste program! Tribes are valuable partners for EPA under our approach.

🙌 EPA has announced a settlement with the Wilbur-Ellis company related to federal safety regulations – the company’s facilities in California and Washington are now back in compliance with chemical reporting requirements!

📋 The company paid a penalty and submitted revised chemical data reporting that better protects facility workers and nearby communities.

🥳 Congrats to Amador Water Agency Financing Corporation on their $58M EPA loan! 👏

This investment will improve several drinking water treatment plants 🚰, increasing the capacity and reliability of drinking water for Amador County, while protecting nearby waterways, including the Mokelumne River watershed. 🌊

EPA’s flexible financing will reduce the project’s costs (to the tune of ~$3.8M! 💰) The project will also create around 248 local jobs during and post-construction. 💪
