Nanny Captured on Nanny Cam Repeatedly Striking and Violently Shaking Two-Month-Old Baby Charged with 10 Felony Counts of Child Abuse
SANTA ANA, Calif. – A nanny for an Irvine family who was captured on a nanny cam repeatedly striking and violently shaking a two-month-old baby over a three-week period while caring for the infant has been charged with 10 felony counts of child abuse.
Iara Dossantos Bomfim, 29, of Anaheim, was arrested on October 23, 2026, by the Irvine Police Department after she returned from her native Brazil and was attempting to set up another Care.com account to advertise her nanny services. Bomfim fled to Brazil on July 12, 2026, the day after the baby’s mother discovered the abuse recorded on the family’s nanny cam.
On July 11, 2026, the baby’s mother checked her nanny cam footage after she heard her three-month-old son scream and went into the nursery to see if he was ok. Bomfim assured her everything was fine, but when the baby’s mother reviewed the nanny cam footage she saw Bomfim sitting on a yoga ball and violently bouncing the baby as his head and neck bounced back and forth and side to side. Bomfim is then seen punching the baby in the back of the head with a closed fist.
A review of the last 30 days of the nanny cam footage revealed Bomfim violently punching, hitting, and shaking the baby starting on June 17, 2026, when he was just two months and 10 days old and continuing until he was three months and five days old. In one instance the baby is seen falling off the bed headfirst while Bomfim was caring for him and, on another day, Bomfim is seen forcefully throwing the baby on the bed.
Bomfim has pleaded not guilty and is currently being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. She faces a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison if convicted on all counts.
“This family’s nightmare began the moment a monster disguised as a loving nanny walked through their front door with open arms to care for their brand-new baby, and this should serve as a powerful reminder to parents everywhere that evil can hide behind the friendliest of smiles and the heartiest of laughs,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “Whether it is a nanny, a coach, a music teacher, a tutor, anyone who is around your child should be fully vetted and anything suspicious must be reported to law enforcement. Abuse lurks in the shadows, and it is up to all of us to shine a light on it and shield the voiceless and the defenseless from harm.”
