🔥 Introducing Fire Away: Wildfire Answers, Anytime.

Wildfire preparedness doesn’t stop when a workshop ends—and now, neither does access to wildfire guidance!

Sisters–Camp Sherman Fire District is excited to introduce Fire Away, a new online resource that gives our community 24/7 access to District-approved wildfire preparedness information.

Have questions about hardening your home against wildfire, preparing for an evacuation, protecting pets and livestock, or knowing what to do before returning home after an evacuation? Fire Away helps you explore these topics and more, using everyday language to make trusted information easier to find and understand.

Developed by Jalana Labs in collaboration with our District, Fire Away builds on the work of our dedicated staff and more than 50 volunteers who help our community prepare for wildfire. ❤️

👉 Have a wildfire question? Ask Fire Away!

Visit www.sistersfire.com and click the “Wildfire Questions” button in the lower-right corner to get started.

Preparedness starts with knowledge—and knowledge is a powerful tool in protecting our community.

Please note: Fire Away is an educational resource, not an emergency alert service. Always follow official evacuation instructions and emergency updates. Call 911 in an emergency.

🚒 Help us congratulate Jeremy Ast on his promotion to Administrative Battalion Chief! 🎉

After 30 years of service to the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District (SCSRFD), Jeremy is stepping into this new leadership role, bringing with him a wealth of experience, a deep commitment to our community, and a passion for serving others.

From his early days as a volunteer to his time as a resident volunteer, career firefighter, and Shift Commander on C-Shift, Jeremy has dedicated three decades to protecting and serving the community he grew up in. As our new Administrative Battalion Chief, he will help strengthen operational readiness, support our personnel across all shifts, and move District priorities forward while building relationships with administrative staff at fire agencies throughout Oregon.

Jeremy’s commitment to service extends beyond the District, too. Whether he’s volunteering as a medic with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, playing bass drum with Bend Fire Pipes & Drums, or cheering on his sons, he continues to find meaningful ways to give back to the community he calls home.

We’re excited to see Jeremy bring his experience, leadership, and hometown heart to this new role!

💛 Congratulations, Jeremy! Thank you for 30 years of dedication to our District and community. We look forward to all that’s ahead!

📁 A BIG THANK YOU TO SPECIAL DISTRICTS ASSOCIATION OF OREGON! 👏

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District would like to extend a sincere thank you to Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO) for supporting our records retention and archiving project through their SDAO Internship Grant Program!

With the help of this grant and the dedicated efforts of our administrative team, our District has made tremendous progress on a large-scale records management project that has been years in the making!

Over the past several months, we've accomplished some significant milestones:

✅ Records Retention & Secure Destruction: Reviewed historical records in accordance with required retention schedules, securely shredding hundreds of boxes of outdated documents.

✅ Digitization: Scanned and converted personnel records into secure digital files, improving accessibility and organization.

✅ Space Savings: Freed up valuable storage space throughout our facilities by reducing the volume of paper records.

✅ Improved Efficiency: Streamlined how we organize, locate, and retrieve important documents, saving valuable staff time.

While there is still work ahead, the SDAO Internship Grant provided the resources and momentum needed to tackle this enormous undertaking and establish a strong foundation for continued improvements.

A special thank you to Angela Linker and Jasmine Yescas for their hard work, attention to detail, and dedication to moving this project forward! 🌟

We are incredibly grateful to SDAO for investing in special districts like ours and providing opportunities to complete important projects that strengthen our operations and ultimately benefit the communities we serve.

Thank you, SDAO, for helping us move forward, one box at a time! 📦

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October, you may notice our Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District crews looking a little brighter than usual. 💗

Throughout the month, our crews will be wearing pink “Courage in Every Fight” shirts in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in support of the individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.

For those currently fighting, for the survivors, for the families walking alongside them, and in memory of those we’ve lost — we wear pink for you.

Breast cancer touches so many lives in our community and beyond. We’re proud to stand together this October to help raise awareness, encourage early detection, and show our support for everyone facing this fight.

Courage in Every Fight. 🎀💗

🔋 Lithium-Ion Batteries: Small Device, Serious Fire Risk

This video from DC Fire and EMS is a powerful example of just how quickly a lithium-ion battery fire can become dangerous.

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere — in e-bikes and scooters, power tools, laptops, phones, rechargeable devices and more. While they’re generally safe when used properly, damaged, defective, improperly charged or overheated batteries can enter thermal runaway, causing an intense fire that can spread rapidly and be very difficult to extinguish.

A few important safety reminders:

* 🔌 Use only the manufacturer-recommended battery and charger.
* 🚫 Never charge e-bikes, scooters or other large battery-powered devices where they block an exit or escape route.
* 🏠 Avoid charging large lithium-ion batteries unattended or overnight.
* ⚠️ Stop using a battery immediately if you notice swelling, unusual heat, leaking, an unusual odor, popping/hissing sounds, or a change in shape or color.
* 🔥 If a battery begins smoking or catches fire, get out, stay out and call 911. Do not put yourself at risk trying to move it.

Lithium-ion battery fires can develop incredibly fast. Take a moment to watch this video and share it with your family — recognizing the warning signs and practicing safe charging and storage can make a difference.

🔥 YARD DEBRIS BURNING OPENS OCTOBER 1 🔥

Yard debris burning within the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District opens for the fall season beginning Wednesday, October 1, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.

🍂 Before you burn, check Before You Burn via the District website at www.sistersfire.com!

Residents within the Fire District are required to use our Before You Burn online system to check the daily burning status and schedule their burn.

➡️ Visit www.sistersfire.com to access the system.

Already registered? You do not need to register your property again, but you must check the burning status and schedule your burn each day you plan to burn.

Burning conditions can change daily based on weather, wind, humidity, and other conditions. Our on-duty Shift Commander evaluates conditions each morning, and the system will be updated by 8 a.m. each day to indicate whether yard debris burning is allowed.

⚠️ A few important reminders:

• The City of Sisters does not allow yard debris burning at any time.

• Some homeowners’ associations may have additional restrictions.

• Properties protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) may be subject to additional regulations. Contact the local ODF office at 541-549-2731 for more information.

Please burn responsibly, follow all applicable regulations, and check Before You Burn every day before lighting your debris pile.

🔥 Check. Schedule. Burn safely.
