Halloween is right around the corner and goblins and ghouls might be running around looking for treats.

🎃Drivers: Let's all slow down in those residential areas and have your heads on a swivel watching for action heros, monsters, ghost and other sugar seeking creatures.

🎃Parents: Remind you littles to be careful on their quest for candy. Watch for cars and carry a flashlight with you for those dark scary streets.

Have a great Halloween. Drive sober, watch for little ones and try not to eat all the candy in one night. 🧟‍♀️🍬🧟🍬🦹‍♂️🍬🧛

Search and Rescue on Timp.

An adult female hiker was near the summit of Timp and slipped. She fell off a cliff and landed on a small ledge.

We were able to visually locate her from our airplane. DPS sent their helicopter in to hoist her from the dangerous area and took her to a waiting ambulance. The hiker was badly injured during the fall and was taken by Lone Peak Fire Department to the Utah Valley Hospital.

Please, use exercise extreme caution in our high elevations where snow and ice are present.

We are extremely grateful for the outcome of today's rescue and our awesome partners.

Public Statement from the Sheriff

Upholding Constitutional Rights While Maintaining Public Order

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is committed to upholding the United States Constitution and protecting the constitutional rights of every citizen. The First Amendment is a cornerstone of our republic, and we recognize and respect the public’s right to speak freely, express disagreement with government decisions, and peacefully advocate for their positions—even when those opinions are unpopular or strongly opposed by others.

The events at last night’s Planning Commission meeting serve as an important reminder that protecting the right to speak does not mean abandoning the responsibility to maintain order.

Citizens have every right to oppose proposed data center development, voice their concerns, and hold their elected and appointed officials accountable. Those rights are fundamental to our democracy. However, a public meeting must also be conducted in a manner that allows the commission to carry out its responsibilities and ensures that all members of the public have a fair opportunity to participate.

The First Amendment does not give anyone an unlimited right to disrupt a public meeting, disregard lawful and reasonable rules of decorum, or prevent public business from proceeding. When individuals refuse to comply with directions intended to restore order, those responsible for maintaining the meeting have a duty to take appropriate action consistent with the law.

During last night’s incident, individuals who refused to leave after being directed to do so were escorted from the meeting by sheriff’s deputies. During that process, one individual allegedly assaulted a deputy. Violence against law enforcement officers is unacceptable, and our deputies deserve to perform their duties without being subjected to physical assault. The circumstances will be addressed through the appropriate legal process.

Let me be clear: our deputies are not there to take sides in a debate over data centers, zoning decisions, or any other public policy issue. Their responsibility is to uphold the law, protect the public, safeguard constitutional rights, and maintain peace and order. That responsibility applies regardless of a person’s viewpoint or position on a controversial issue.

We will continue to protect the right of every citizen to peacefully express their opinions, question government decisions, and make their voices heard. At the same time, we will not ignore conduct that threatens public safety, interferes with the lawful operation of public meetings, or places others at risk.

The First Amendment protects our right to disagree with our government. It does not eliminate our responsibility to respect the rights of others or the lawful processes through which our government operates.

We can disagree passionately and still act responsibly. We can demand accountability while respecting the rule of law. And we can defend our constitutional freedoms without resorting to threats, violence, or the disruption of public proceedings.

That is the standard our office will continue to uphold—for every citizen, every viewpoint, and every community we serve.

**Press Release**

On 10/20/2026, there was a disturbance at the Utah County Planning Commission meeting where two persons were issued citations, and one person was booked into the Utah County Jail.

The Planning Commission was discussing ordinances concerning data centers and Utah County, during that time several persons were being disruptive and the Commissioners advised everyone in the meeting to not continue that behavior or those disruptive persons would be removed. After a vote by the Commissioners, several persons became disruptive and the Commissioners wanted those persons to be removed from the meeting.

Utah County Sheriff Office Deputies asked one male to leave the meeting, to which he did without incident. It should be noted that the person who left on their own accord was not cited.

UCSO Deputies were asking a female to leave, and she did not rather she began to argue with Deputies. Other UCSO Deputies came over to the female and were again trying to get her to just exit the meeting. At that point a UCSO Deputy took hold of the female and began to remove her from the row of chairs. The Deputy was struck in the groin by the female, and two other persons did grab ahold of the female to prevent her from being removed. The group of three were removed from the chambers and taken to the lobby where UCSO Deputies began to separate the parties. In that process, the female, that struck the Deputy, and the Deputy went to the ground. After the female stopped resisting arrest and was secured in hand restraints, she advised her jaw was hurting and she needed to use the restroom. Deputies called Provo FD EMS to the scene to check on her and facilitated her being able to go to the restroom. EMS did not find emergent or immediate injuries and advised her to potentially seek further care later.

The two persons that grabbed the female were released on citations for Disrupting a Meeting and Interference with an Arrest.

The female was booked into the Utah County Jail for:

Disrupting a Meeting Class A
Interference with an Arresting Officer Class B
Assault on a Police Officer Class B

After this incident, numerous persons were able to voice their concerns regarding Data Centers to the Planning Commission from the lecture at the appointed time. This incident is also being reviewed by UCSO Supervisory personnel.

Just a little heads up.

There's some potential rough weather heading our way this weekend. Be careful if you're out and about, especially if you're in the backcountry areas of Utah.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel will bring ample tropical moisture across Utah through the holiday weekend. The threat of isolated flash flooding will start as early as Saturday afternoon across southern and central Utah, become widespread and potentially significant across southwest Utah by Sunday as the remnants of the tropical system move through Utah. However by Monday, moisture will remain in place and will support a return to more typical scattered showers and thunderstorms capable of locally heavy rainfall.
