ONLINE OR IN-PERSON (in Ashe)
On Tuesday, October 27th, the WCC Small Business Center is hosting Money, Margins & Momentum: a focused two-hour financial literacy workshop built specifically for small business owners who are ready to take real ownership of their finances.

Tuesday, October 27, 2026
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
In Person: WCC Ashe Campus | Poe Building, Community Room
Online Option: Can't be there in person? Join us virtually from wherever you are.
💰 Free to attend — limited seats and virtual spots available

We've made it easy to participate no matter where you're located. Register and we'll send you everything you need to join online or find us in person.

Leading the session is Audra Gaiziunas — a senior financial executive, fractional CFO, and nationally recognized educator whose career is deeply rooted in the craft beverage and brewery world, including Dogfish Head, Crooked Stave, Mother Earth Brewing, and Burlington B**r Co. She holds an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School and is known for her ability to make complex financial concepts feel human, practical, and immediately useful — especially for product-based and hospitality businesses.

Here's what two hours with Audra will give you:

âś” Confidence reading your core financial statements
âś” Tools to manage cash flow through the hard months
âś” A pricing framework that actually accounts for your overhead
âś” A breakeven analysis you can apply to your own business
âś” The red flags to watch so a rough patch doesn't become a crisis

The businesses that survive their slowest seasons and grow on purpose all have one thing in common: their owners know their numbers. This workshop is two hours toward that — and you can join from your couch if you need to.

We hope to see you there — in person or online.

Meet Maryann and Dan Ennis, the husband-and-wife duo behind The Cellar on Evergreen! Originally from New York, Maryann and Dan met in Florida and spent much of their lives raising their three daughters in Austin, Texas. Their journey also took them overseas to Singapore for four years, before eventually bringing them to North Carolina. After purchasing a cabin in Sparta in 2015, they quickly fell in love with the charm of the mountains and the community. In 2018, they relocated to Huntersville for Dan's career, but when the pandemic arrived, they made Sparta their permanent home. As they began investing in buildings around town, one particular space sparked an idea that had been close to Maryann's heart for years: opening a cozy neighborhood w**e bar.

For Maryann and Dan, entertaining has always been a way of life. From hosting dinners with friends and neighbors to bringing people together for celebrations, their home has always been a gathering place. When they opened The Cellar on Evergreen in 2023, they wanted to bring that same sense of warmth and hospitality to downtown Sparta. They lovingly transformed the space into a cozy, inviting w**e bar full of character and personality, where guests can enjoy w**e, b**r, delicious food, occasional live music, and special events. But what truly makes The Cellar special isn't just what's on the menu, it's the people. What started as a dream has become a place where strangers become friends, friendships grow into family, and everyone is welcomed. With Dan recently retiring from the corporate world, the couple continues to pour their hearts into a business that reflects their love of people, community, and good company.

*And there's no better time to experience The Cellar than this weekend!*

Join The Cellar family October 23rd and 24th - for their 2nd Annual Oktoberfest! Enjoy festive food and b**r specials, test your strength in the stein-holding contest, and celebrate with great company in the heart of Sparta. Whether you're a longtime regular or visiting for the first time, there's always a place for you at The Cellar on Evergreen!

I said to myself, "Self, you should get yourself out the door early this morning and catch the sunrise over Doughton Park before the leaves fall." So I did, and as usual, it was spectacular. I even shared a sunrise on the top of a ridge with a dude from Chicago who was spellbound by the colors, the view, and as he said, "the vast emptiness." Then a bit later I had a car stop next to me while I was stumbling across the road, only to see an old friend smiling out the window at me. You never know what you're going to see in Doughton of Alleghany County, but I can almost guarantee it's going to be amazing.
