Have you seen any spiders hanging around your place?

Spooky season wouldn't be complete without spiders. While they're a Halloween favorite, they're also beneficial predators that help reduce pest populations in gardens, landscapes, and around homes.

Nearly all spiders are harmless and would rather avoid people than interact with them. Humans are not "food" for spiders, and they do not bite to feed. Most species will only bite if they are accidentally trapped against the skin or handled. In fact, many of Iowa's common spiders have fangs that are too small or weak to puncture human skin. Of the hundreds of spider species found in Iowa, only two are considered potentially dangerous, and fortunately, both the black widow and brown recluse are very rare.

🎃🎃🎃What to do With Pumpkins After Halloween?👻

As Halloween decorations come down, pumpkins 🎃do not have to go to the landfill. "Pumpkins are biodegradable and surprisingly useful even after Halloween," said Aaron Steil, consumer horticulture extension specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. "Whether they end up in the kitchen, compost pile or garden, there are usually better options than throwing them away."

Check out some options in the comments.
