What is Placemaking?

Placemaking is the turning of spaces into places. At the Baltimore County Department of Planning, we define “placemaking” as a process that brings spaces to life in ways that deepen bonds between people and place, make neighborhoods more vibrant and connected, and nurture a sense of identity and belonging.

The Baltimore County Department of Planning today unveiled a new placemaking toolkit to:
✅ give community organizations practical guidance and resources to turn ideas for public spaces into projects that bring people together
✅ strengthen neighborhoods
✅ reflect the character of local communities.
