With the end of daylight savings time, more people are commuting in the dark. It can be hard to spot pedestrians. Always stay alert, keep your eyes on the road and watch out for people on foot!

Lindale/Smith Co Residents:

We are aware of the pavement concerns on the entrance and exit ramps at the US 69/I-20 interchange and have heard from a number of motorists who travel through the area.

A construction project to improve the roadway surface is already planned, and TxDOT is currently coordinating with the contractor to finalize a start date. Once the schedule is confirmed, we will share additional information with the public.

We understand the current roadway condition has been frustrating for motorists and appreciate your patience as we work through the final steps needed to begin construction. These improvements will provide a smoother driving surface and improve the overall condition of the interchange.

TRAFFIC ALERT FOR BULLARD RESIDENTS:

Traffic to switch to new FM 2493/Panther Crossing intersection starting Oct. 8

Traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed intersection of FM 2493 and Panther Crossing beginning Thursday, Oct. 8, as part of the ongoing roadway improvement project.

The traffic switch is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Thursday and is expected to be completed by the evening of Monday, Oct. 12.

During the transition, the existing intersection will be closed, and motorists should expect temporary changes in access near the Bullard Independent School District campus.

The rear high school access point connecting to FM 2493 will be closed during the switch. Access to Bullard Elementary School will remain available via Schoolhouse Road and Panther Crossing. However, that route will not provide access to the high school campus.

Students, staff, and visitors needing to access the agricultural facilities, animal barn or other rear high school facilities should enter through the main high school entrance and travel through the campus. The gate near the field house will remain open to accommodate access during construction.

According to project officials, the rear high school entrance is expected to reopen at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, once the traffic switch is complete.

Motorists are asked to follow all traffic control devices, watch for changing traffic patterns, and use caution while traveling through the area.

US 69 traffic switch to begin Monday, Sept. 28

A traffic switch is planned for US 69 in Bullard beginning Monday, Sept. 28, as crews continue work on the US 69 and FM 2493 overpass project. The switch is weather permitting.

The switch is scheduled to begin after 8 am on Monday to help reduce congestion during school drop-off. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction with a continuous center left-turn lane. Motorists will be shifted to the east side of US 69, allowing crews to begin construction activities on the west side of the roadway. The traffic switch is expected to be in place for several months as crews continue work.

Motorists should expect delays, use caution, and pay attention to traffic control devices and workers in the area.

The project includes construction of an overpass with entrance and exit ramps and the realignment of FM 2493 west of US 69.

We know not everybody is used to roundabouts, but they can have so many benefits. Here are a couple facts to wrap up
▶️ Large trucks can use them too
▶️ They can actually reduce traffic delays
▶️ Slower speeds mean they're safer for pedestrians and cyclists too

09/24/2026

A lot of clever design goes into building roundabouts. After one turned people's negative assumptions to a positive reception, local engineers are building a new roundabout outside of Hallettsville. Why? To prevent crashes at the intersection of two highways.
