“Twas the Night Before Sleep Out- CHGW Edition
’Twas the night before Sleep Out, all through the Cove,
Young people sought safety, support, and love.
Not a staff member sleeping—all hands on deck,
Pushing toward our goal and that big CHECK!
Sleeping bags ready, supplies stacked near,
Tomorrow’s sleepers bundled in gear.
This night is symbolic, our mission is real—
To lift every youth and help them heal.
So as stars fill the sky and the cold sets in,
We will honor their courage and the hope within.
Sleep warm in purpose, sleep proud and strong,
At Covenant House Greater Washington, we make safety a home.

1 Week. 1 Night. 1 Mission.
In just one week, I will be joining others at the DC Wharf to sleep out so youth don’t have to. This powerful event reminds us that even one night outdoors can spark a lifetime of change for young people experiencing homelessness.
Stand with us—every donation makes a difference.
One night can change a life!

Marcus came to Covenant House Greater Washington with a strong desire to join the military. He lived with us for more than a year, taking workforce development classes and planning for his future with his case manager and our support staff. And all that effort paid off. Earlier this year, Marcus achieved his goal and began U.S. Army boot camp at Fort Lee. He graduated from boot camp in October and is now stationed in Hawaii!
The military offers a path out of homelessness for young people across the country. This Veteran's Day, we're proud of the many Covenant House alumni who have spent time in the military and excited to see the bright futures they've been able to create for themselves.

At Covenant House, our mission calls us to serve young people facing homelessness with absolute respect and unconditional love. And while their stories are as diverse as their dreams, far too many of our youth, especially Black youth, are navigating not just housing insecurity but the enduring legacy of systemic injustice. For them, freedom is not simply a concept from the past. It is an urgent demand of the present. As we commemorate Juneteenth this year, we do so not only in reflection, but in deep recognition of the strength, brilliance, and resilience of the young people we serve. Their courage reminds us that liberation is not a one-time event. It is a daily commitment to equity, dignity, and belonging. Let this day renew our promise: to listen more closely, act more boldly, and build a future where no young person is forgotten. That is how we honor Juneteenth. That is how we move forward, together.
