🌍✨ One hand does not clap — real change happens together.
We’re excited to share our latest story featuring GCE‑US member Educate the Children International, whose community‑driven work in Nepal shows the power of collective action in education. From empowering women to strengthening local schools, their efforts remind us that progress is something we build with communities, not for them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday as we celebrated Maysa Jalbout stepping into her new role as Director of Education Cannot Wait. The room was filled with energy, ideas, and a shared commitment to supporting children whose education has been disrupted by crisis.
For years, GCE‑US and ECW have worked side‑by‑side to elevate the right to quality education for every child. We’re excited to continue strengthening this partnership and pushing for the resources and action needed to make that vision real.

We are deeply concerned by the President’s FY27 budget request released on Friday, which proposes a 30% cut to the State Department and international programs — and provides no funding at all for international basic education. At a moment when children around the world are facing unprecedented barriers to learning, eliminating these investments would undo decades of bipartisan progress and jeopardize the futures of millions of learners.
But we’re encouraged by the strong bipartisan support we’ve seen in Congress. A recent House letter championing international basic education secured 110 sign-ons, demonstrating that lawmakers across the political spectrum understand that education is essential to global stability, economic opportunity, and human rights. We are urging Congress to restore the $970 million needed for international basic education, including $152 million for multilateral partnerships that reach the most marginalized children.

Last week, our own Giulia McPherson joined GCE-US member American Jesuits International in El Salvador, witnessing both the hope and the hardship shaping education in marginalized communities.
At San José Las Flores School, supported by Fe y Alegria El Salvador, teachers and students radiate resilience proving every day that education is the greatest weapon against poverty.
But funding cuts have hit hard.
✨ La Luz de las Niñas: from 600 girls served to just 50.
✨ Zacamil Training Center: from 1,200 youth trained to only 200.
Still, the determination is undeniable. From barista training to support for returning migrants, these programs continue to open doors despite shrinking resources.
The message was clear: **education transforms lives, but only if we stand together to sustain it.**

We’re delighted to welcome the Early Opportunities Initiative to the GCE-US coalition! 🎉
Their work shines a powerful light on the importance of nurturing care and early childhood development, especially for young children and families facing conflict, climate challenges, and other crises.
The Initiative brings together research, mentoring, and community-driven microgrants to spark meaningful change. Their belief that hope grows through action aligns beautifully with our shared mission to ensure every child has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
We’re excited to collaborate and strengthen our collective impact for children everywhere. 💛

NEW STATEMENT: GCE-US Calls for Full Investigation and Protection of Students After Deadly School Strike
The U.S. has opened a formal investigation into the missile strike on an Iranian girls' school that killed at least 165 civilians, many of them children, after a preliminary assessment determined the U.S. was at fault.
Schools are protected spaces under international law, and no child should ever lose their life in a place meant for learning and safety.
We are calling for:
- A full, transparent, independent investigation into how a school became a target
- Stronger civilian‑harm mitigation systems to prevent this from ever happening again
- Public release of findings and meaningful policy reforms
- Protection of students and teachers everywhere, without exception
We stand with the families and communities shattered by this horrific strike. We stand for every child’s right to learn in safety. No school should ever become a battlefield.
