The City of Waukegan’s Fall Leaf Vacuuming Service begins this upcoming Monday, October 26, starting in Wards 7 and 8.

Residents should rake leaves onto the parkway in front of their homes according to the collection schedule. The trucks use an automated arm that extends approximately nine feet to collect leaves. There are no rakers, so proper placement is important.

Leaf Collection Guidelines
• Keep leaf piles away from utility poles, fire hydrants, mailboxes and other obstacles so the automated arm can reach them.
• Do NOT rake leaves into the street.
• Leaves will not be collected around parked vehicles.
• Do not place leaves in bags. Bagged leaves require a sticker.
• Leaf burning is prohibited.

LRS will follow the collection schedule as closely as possible. However, weather conditions and the rate of leaf fall may require adjustments to the schedule.
For more information, call LRS at 844-633-3577.

It’s October, Waukegan!

Halloween is just around the corner, and this year, trick-or-treating will take place on Saturday, October 31, from 2–5 PM. Since Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, please make sure you have the date marked on your calendar.

Getting ready to hand out candy? Leave your porch light on or place a sign in your window to let trick-or-treaters know you’re participating.

For a safe afternoon:
• Wear bright or reflective costumes when possible.
• Stick to sidewalks and cross streets at designated corners.
• Parents should inspect treats before children enjoy them.
• Drivers should slow down and watch carefully for trick-or-treaters in residential neighborhoods.

Get your costumes ready, stock up on treats and get ready for a safe and fun Halloween afternoon in Waukegan!
