COMMUNITY ALERT: 🚨 DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Impersonation Scam 🚨
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about callers impersonating law enforcement and requesting money for a family member’s “bond,” GPS ankle monitor or court ordered classes.
A familiar phone number does not prove the call is legitimate. Scammers can manipulate caller ID to display the Sheriff’s Office or Jail number and may know accurate information about your family.
•🚨 Do not send money through Cash App, Venmo or other payment apps at an unsolicited caller’s direction.
•🚨 Do not provide banking information, passwords or verification codes.
•🚨 Be suspicious of urgent payment demands or instructions to remain on the phone while transferring money.
Hang up and verify independently. Find the agency’s number on its official website and call directly. Do not rely on a number supplied by the caller.
If you already sent money, contact your bank or payment service immediately and report the incident to your local police department.

On Friday, October 23, Sheriff Mendrick addressed the final Crisis Intervention Team class of his career — a milestone for a leader who has always believed that well‑trained, compassionate responders make our communities safer. Under his guidance the 40‑hour C.I.T. curriculum earned certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, ensuring the program meets rigorous statewide standards for trauma‑informed crisis response.

Thanks to a grant from ILETSB, Sheriff Mendrick’s vision reaches every Sheriff’s Deputy and police agency across DuPage County at no charge — removing financial barriers so that all law enforcement can receive this essential training. His leadership and foresight in pursuing certification and funding were pivotal to the program’s wide adoption and lasting success, expanding access to crisis‑recognition, effective communication, and safe de‑escalation techniques. He also brought key DuPage County partners to the table — members from the health department, the state’s attorney’s office, and probation — whose collaboration and expertise were invaluable in shaping a multidisciplinary, community-centered curriculum.
“The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office instituted these de-escalation strategies long before the training became mandatory,” said Sheriff James Mendrick. “Through our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office has been at the forefront of addressing mental health and behavioral crises with empathy and skill. This specialized training is crucial in ensuring that we serve our community with the highest level of care,” he continued.
Sheriff Mendrick will be deeply missed by colleagues and the communities he served, yet his legacy endures in the strengthened skills and compassionate practices he championed. Because of his dedication and the partnerships he nurtured, deputies and officers across the county are better prepared to respond to behavioral‑health crises with empathy and professionalism — a lasting tribute to his commitment to safety, service, and community trust. Thank you Sheriff Mendrick.

History is being made today in Illinois!
Sheriff James Mendrick and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office are proud to announce the launch of I.G.N.I.T.E. (Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally through Education). This initiative makes DuPage County the first jail in the state to adopt this powerful program. In partnership with JUST of DuPage and the National Sheriffs’ Association, I.G.N.I.T.E. provides inmates with education and trade training five days a week. From GED classes and college courses to financial literacy and vocational certifications, this program is designed to reduce recidivism and change lives from the inside out. This program will supplement the work of JUST and their mission within our continuum of care. We are taking the successful JUST of DuPage program to a national level.
Thank You to Genesee County Sheriff, Christopher R Swanson for creating this incredible blue print, to Sheriff James Mendrick, to Meghan Beal, I.G.N.I.T.E. Director, National Sheriffs’ Association and to our local partners for helping us bring such success through our rehabilitative efforts!

🐾 Making a difference, one plush K9 at a time! 🐾
Lynn Saputo of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association (ISA) presented a $2,000 check to Sheriff James Mendrick for the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office K9 program! Deputy Davis and K9 partner Xena was chosen as our 2026 ISA K9 Hero and Ambassador!! These K9 partners have the capability to do things that no human being can achieve. Their olfactories work beyond any capability that a human being has.
This donation was made possible thanks to everyone who supported our fundraiser by adopting one of the 131 plush K9 Xenas so far. Thank you to our incredible community for your generosity and for helping support our hard working K9 units!
Don’t worry, there are still K9 Xena, plush available.
(Just go to ilsheriff.org then go to the k9 Heroes tab on top).
