While we know he will be missed by the community and all of us here at the City, we are pleased to share that WSPD Assistant Police Chief, Roger Yount, has been selected as the new Chief of Police for the City of Willow Park. Roger will begin his new role on December 1, 2026.

Roger began his career with the City of White Settlement in May 2000. Throughout his more than 26 years of service, he has continued to advance through the ranks, becoming Assistant Police Chief in May 2023.

Roger’s career progression reflects the many years he has dedicated to serving this community and the experience he has gained along the way. His contributions to the City of White Settlement and our Police Department have been significant, and his departure will certainly leave a void. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the many people he has worked alongside throughout his career.

While we are sad to see Roger leave, we are incredibly proud of him and excited to see him take this next step as Chief of Police for the City of Willow Park. We wish him the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter! Please join us in thanking Roger for his many years of service and all he has done for the City of White Settlement.

Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of two Texas law enforcement officers who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting others.

Officer Brian Gentry
Fort Worth Police Department
End of Watch: October 21, 2026

Deputy Adam Sherifi
Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office
End of Watch: October 20, 2026

Officer Gentry passed away following a medical emergency suffered while on duty. Deputy Sherifi was tragically killed in the line of duty while assisting with the service of felony warrants.

Though their circumstances were different, both losses serve as heartbreaking reminders of the sacrifices made by those who wear the badge.

We extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, fellow officers, and the departments grieving their loss.

We also keep the injured Canton Police Officer in our thoughts and prayers as he recovers.

Their service will not be forgotten. Their sacrifice will always be remembered.

Rest easy, brothers. We have the watch from here.
