Initial News Release:
Oswego Police Respond to Overnight Armed Incident; Subject in Custody

[Oswego, IL] – The following information is preliminary and based on the initial investigation. The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.

Oswego Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance early this morning that later escalated into an armed incident.

At approximately 12:54 a.m., on Friday, September 25, 2026, officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Colchester Drive for a reported verbal domestic disturbance. While officers assisted a female resident in safely retrieving her property and leaving the residence, the male resident became erratic and verbally confrontational toward officers. Officers then cleared the scene.

At approximately 1:19 a.m., the male called 9-1-1 requesting medical assistance. Due to the earlier incident, Oswego Police and the Oswego Fire Protection District responded back to the residence. Upon arrival, officers heard the male yelling and screaming from inside the garage while he remained on the phone with dispatchers. The male allegedly made threats to harm and shoot officers, and officers subsequently heard a fi***rm discharge.

Officers established a perimeter and began negotiations with the male. A shelter-in-place was issued for residents within approximately one mile of the area and was later reduced to approximately one-quarter mile as the incident progressed. The Kendall County Special Response Team and Kane County SWAT also responded to assist.

After several hours of negotiation, the male was taken into custody at approximately 10:00 a.m. without incident and transported for a psychological evaluation. The male is not being identified as charges have not been determined at this time. Additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
