Thank you to everyone who came to our community consultation event in Yeperenye Shopping Centre last Saturday, we loved hearing your feedback. We've had a few questions about the proposed Differential Rating Model in Council's Draft Municipal Plan, so let's clear up a couple of common misconceptions.
β MYTH: Rural properties are charged the same rates as residential properties in town.
β
FACT: Under the proposed model, the Rural Rate in the Dollar would be set at just 32% of the Residential Rate in the Dollar, recognising that rural residents generally receive fewer direct Council services.
β MYTH: Council is changing the rating model to make more money.
β
FACT: The proposed model changes how rates are distributed across property categories. It does not materially change Council's overall revenue.
β MYTH: Ratepayers are footing the bill for projects like the new Library and Todd Mall upgrades.
β
FACT: Many of Council's major projects are funded through significant Australian and Northern Territory Government grants.
The Draft Municipal Plan is currently out for consultation and we encourage everyone to read the details and have their say before Elected Members consider the final budget in June.

Boy oh boy, wowee! TIO Traeger Park is looking a treat ahead of this weekend's AFL clash ππ
A huge shout out to our Depot crew, who have spent the past few weeks preparing the ground to national AFL standards and ensuring it looks its absolute best.
It's a fantastic showcase for Alice Springs, we can't wait to see the Melbourne Football Club and GWS Giants in action. We're big fans of the Giants and their socials game, but our hearts lie with the Dees in this one sorry π

We apologise that we were unable to livestream Mayβs Ordinary Council Meeting due to the unexpected failure of a critical piece of technology in the Council Chamber.
We know many in our community value livestream access as an important way to stay informed and connected to Council decision-making, and we regret the disruption.
Parts of the chamberβs technology infrastructure have previously been identified as approaching end of life, with upgrades proposed as part of Councilβs upcoming budget. While this specific failure was unforeseen, these works will be prioritised in the new financial year to support more reliable livestreaming into the future.
