🚧 Traffic & Road Closures – Night Markets ft. Finke Desert Race 🏁✨

To help create a safe and vibrant event precinct for the Night Markets ft. Finke Desert Race, road closures will be in place around the CBD on Thursday 4 June.

Closed areas include:
β€’ Todd Street (between Gregory Terrace and Stott Terrace) – 6:00am Thursday 4 June to 12:00pm Friday 5 June

β€’ Southern section of the Hartley Street Carpark – 6:00am to 11:00pm Thursday 4 June

These closures help create a safe, vibrant space for an unforgettable evening of food, entertainment, market stalls and Finke Desert Race action right in the heart of Alice Springs.

From stunt riders in the air to live entertainment and bustling stalls, it’s all part of the epic atmosphere that makes this event so special.

Please allow extra travel time, follow signage and plan ahead if you're travelling into the CBD.

Guess who's back... back again? πŸπŸ‘€

Five-time Finke Desert Race champion David Walsh is coming out of retirement for the 50th Anniversary Finke Desert Race, and his family's reaction says it all!

For the past ten years, their favourite Finke memory has been hearing: β€œOne more, no more…” - and now it’s one more again πŸ˜‰

Now we want to hear yours.

Alice Springs Town Council and the Tatts Finke Desert Race are inviting the community to share their favourite Finke memories as we celebrate 50 years of this iconic event.

You never know where your story might end up... 🎬✨

Thank you to everyone who came to our community consultation event in Yeperenye Shopping Centre last Saturday, we loved hearing your feedback. We've had a few questions about the proposed Differential Rating Model in Council's Draft Municipal Plan, so let's clear up a couple of common misconceptions.

❌ MYTH: Rural properties are charged the same rates as residential properties in town.
βœ… FACT: Under the proposed model, the Rural Rate in the Dollar would be set at just 32% of the Residential Rate in the Dollar, recognising that rural residents generally receive fewer direct Council services.

❌ MYTH: Council is changing the rating model to make more money.
βœ… FACT: The proposed model changes how rates are distributed across property categories. It does not materially change Council's overall revenue.

❌ MYTH: Ratepayers are footing the bill for projects like the new Library and Todd Mall upgrades.
βœ… FACT: Many of Council's major projects are funded through significant Australian and Northern Territory Government grants.

The Draft Municipal Plan is currently out for consultation and we encourage everyone to read the details and have their say before Elected Members consider the final budget in June.

Boy oh boy, wowee! TIO Traeger Park is looking a treat ahead of this weekend's AFL clash 😍😍

A huge shout out to our Depot crew, who have spent the past few weeks preparing the ground to national AFL standards and ensuring it looks its absolute best.

It's a fantastic showcase for Alice Springs, we can't wait to see the Melbourne Football Club and GWS Giants in action. We're big fans of the Giants and their socials game, but our hearts lie with the Dees in this one sorry πŸ˜…

We apologise that we were unable to livestream May’s Ordinary Council Meeting due to the unexpected failure of a critical piece of technology in the Council Chamber.

We know many in our community value livestream access as an important way to stay informed and connected to Council decision-making, and we regret the disruption.

Parts of the chamber’s technology infrastructure have previously been identified as approaching end of life, with upgrades proposed as part of Council’s upcoming budget. While this specific failure was unforeseen, these works will be prioritised in the new financial year to support more reliable livestreaming into the future.

Alice Springs residents are invited to have their say on the concept designs for the new Alice Springs Public Library, with community consultation now officially open! πŸ“š

Residents now have the chance to view and provide feedback on the concept designs for the new purpose-built library.

Visit us at the Todd Mall Markets on Sunday 31 May to explore the designs in person, or view them online and at the library.
