You may have seen an unfamiliar sight on our beautiful Peninsula lately, with some solo Highway Patrol units getting about, taking in the lovely beach views.

With these types of patrols though, comes some unwelcome surprises for some motorists. So far, just since Tuesday, our solo units have detected 27 drivers using mobile phones while driving! Disappointing to say the least, especially so with the poor weather conditions, some people's spirits were a little dampened after they received their $611 fine and 4 demerit points.

Carrum Downs Police celebrating National Volunteer Week.

This National Volunteer Week, the Carrum Downs Police visited some of the area volunteers.
Police teamed up with the Frankston L2P Program to celebrate the driving mentors like Jan, who selflessly give their time to support young learner drivers and contribute to our local road safety.
Jan has been assisting learner Breanna since January this year, and next week Breanna is going for her probationary driver licence.
Learning to drive is an exciting and challenging opportunity for most young people however, many learner drivers are unable to gain valuable experience and confidence behind the wheel because they don’t have access to a car or a suitable person to assist them.
If you are looking for a volunteering opportunity with a difference this could be the program for you!
If you are over 21 and have your full driver’s licence, with 1-2 hours a week spare, please consider becoming a TAC L2P Mentor
 A car is provided, insured, and fuelled up!
 Full training and support are provided.
Sharing your knowledge can be a rewarding experience that offers a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Help support young people in your community to become safe drivers.
If this is something you are interested in, please use the link below to register.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Frankston on Saturday 16 May.

It’s believed an unknown male approached the victim at approximately 1:13am at a local hotel on the Nepean Hwy striking up conversation. During the conversation, the man asked the victim if he had ever been in a fight.

Shortly after, the victim left and was followed by the man. The victim crossed the road with his friends attempting to enter another venue but noticed that the man had followed them. Concerned, the victim started to walk east on Davey Street and ordered an Uber.

While waiting for their ride, the man approaches the victim and his friends, trying to intimidate the victim. The man punches the victim connecting with his jaw and then flees on foot.

It’s believed the unknown man stays in the Frankston CBD for another three hours after the assault.
