🎉 That’s a wrap on Queensland Seniors Month!

Our seniors are up front, enjoying the view, the breeze and a good chat. And many of the people pedalling behind them are seniors too.

Most of our volunteer pilots are well past the age when people assume you “slow down”. They turn up each week in hi-vis, ready to ride, and more often than not they’re having as much fun as their guests.

This month’s theme was “Connect and celebrate”. We think the trishaw does both rather well: two seats up front, one behind, and a lot of life between them.

Thank you to every guest, carer and volunteer who rode with us this October. Here’s to many more rides, whichever seat you’re in. 💛

⚠️ A friendly warning from the team.

Volunteering with us has been linked to uncontrollable laughing, sudden new friendships, and calves you didn’t know you had.

We’re looking for more trishaw pilots to join the crew. Not much of a rider? There are plenty of other ways to be part of it, and we’ll help you find the one that suits you.

You choose the shifts that suit you each month, and we’ll train you, online and in person. Rides run from Paradise Point and The Spit, with views that make a weekday feel like a holiday.

If you’ve got a few hours and a decent sense of humour, we’d love to hear from you.

📎 Memo to the fleet: the rides are free.

The bikes, sadly, did not get the memo.

Since we started, our volunteers have given more than 25,000 free rides to older people and people with disability. And that won’t change.

But our 11 bikes have needs of their own. Tyres wear down. Batteries need replacing. Brakes, seats and canopies need regular servicing, and three of our bikes are specially built to carry wheelchairs. Costs keep climbing, and the bikes keep sending us their sticky notes.

If you’d like to help keep the wheels turning, every donation goes toward keeping our guests rolling along the water.

This Sunday is Grandparents Day.

Every grandparent carries a whole world we only catch glimpses of. The street they grew up on. The song that was playing when they met. The first house, the first baby, the long drive to the coast with the windows down.

Most of those stories never get told. Nobody hides them. We just forget to ask.

A slow ride has a way of drawing them out. Sit side by side for a while, with no screen and nowhere to be, and the memories come back. Our pilots hear them every week: a first dance, a first job, a love story told with a little grin.

So this weekend, ask a grandparent about the old days.

Then hold on tight. To the stories, and to them. 💛

First ride with us? Here’s what happens. 🚲

1. Book online. Pick a day and a spot that suits you.
2. Meet your pilot. One of our friendly volunteers will be waiting with the trishaw at Paradise Point or The Spit.
3. Settle in. Our volunteers help you get comfortable and buckled in. There’s a blanket if it’s breezy, and a family member, friend or carer can sit right beside you.
4. Enjoy the ride. Around 30 to 45 minutes along the water, at a gentle pace, with plenty of time to chat (or just take in the view).
5. Head home with a smile. Most people ask when they can come back.

No cost, no rush, and no experience needed. Just bring your sunnies, because it’s already feeling like summer on the Gold Coast. 😎

We’ve given more than 25,000 free trishaw rides on the Gold Coast. Now we’re wondering how far the bikes could go.

We’re in the early planning stages of a regional tour to the Western Darling Downs, proposed for May 2027. A fortnight on the road, bringing free trishaw rides to seniors and people with disability in regional Queensland.

Along the way, we’d love to train local senior high school students to pilot the trishaws and take their own seniors and people with disability for rides.

It’s a big plan, and we can’t do it alone. We’re looking for partners: funding bodies and philanthropists, community organisations, politicians and community leaders, councils, and aged care and disability providers.

Our volunteer committee is looking for a Volunteer Secretary.

📋 About 3 to 4 hours a week
💻 Online committee meetings every 6 weeks

Our rides tackle social isolation, getting seniors and people with disability out into the fresh air and back among their community, free of charge. Keeping them free takes a well-run committee behind the scenes, and that’s where the secretary comes in.

You’d suit it if you’re organised, happy to work independently and care about what we do.

You won’t need to pedal. Your work just keeps the wheels turning for everyone who does.

Good with minutes? We’d love some of yours.
