Meet Sarah🌾

Sarah has been a Rural Youth member for 4 years and works as a farm assistant. Her club would describe her as friendly, outgoing and not afraid to have a go!

Her favourite Rural Youth memory is "every Agfest I've had a role, and watching everything come together is awesome."

To Sarah, Rural Youth means "community in every sense of the word." She says it has shaped her hugely. She's much more confident now, and the skills she's picked up help her in her career and her personal life.

Her advice for anyone thinking about joining: "Just get in and have a crack, Rural Youth is all about having fun and learning new things!"

On ya, Sarah!

Patrick is halfway through his New Zealand study tour, and there’s already been plenty to experience!

Based in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty region, he’s been getting hands-on with New Zealand dairy practices and mustering, as well as attending a farmer forum at Te Akau focused on grazing methods.

He also joined the regional SGM over the weekend, connecting with even more people along the way.

We can’t wait to see what the second half of his trip has in store!

A pretty special milestone for one of our Rural Youth legends!

Congratulations to Matthew “Waddles” Wadley, who has officially reached 15 years as a Rural Youth member - the longest possible time someone can be a member of the organisation and only the second person ever to reach this milestone.

To make it even more special, Waddles has also been awarded the 2026 Graeme Tole Award, Rural Youth Tasmania’s most prestigious award.

Since joining at just 15 years old, Waddles has given countless hours to Rural Youth, Hagley Rural Youth, Agfest and Quercus Park. From taking on club and Agfest leadership roles to sharing his skills, equipment and knowledge, he’s also become a great mentor to younger members coming through the organisation.

As part of the Graeme Tole Award, Waddles will travel to Mystery Creek Fieldays in 2027, bringing home new ideas and experiences to share with Rural Youth.

15 years of mateship, leadership and giving back.

Congratulations, Waddles - very well deserved!

Jordan recently returned from taking part in the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme Voyage, an incredible youth development experience that brings young people together to build leadership, teamwork and resilience while sailing aboard a tall ship.

For Jordan, it was an experience she won’t forget:

“It was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned so much and have gained new skills and new friends.”

Opportunities like this are just one of the many experiences available to Rural Youth members, helping them step outside their comfort zone, build confidence and make connections along the way.

One of the many great opportunities available through Rural Youth is the chance to take part in a Study Tour and experience agriculture, culture and Rural Youth in another part of the world.

Following our recent Selection Day, we were excited to announce our 2027 Study Tour recipients at last weekend’s AGM:

Northern Ireland & Scotland: Holly Coad
Austria: Brooke Jones
Switzerland: Samantha Pini
New Zealand: Thomas Knott

We also congratulate Matthew Wadley, our 2027 Graeme Tole Award recipient.

A huge congratulations to everyone selected! We can’t wait to follow your adventures and hear all about your experiences. ✈️
