Council and community decisions & plans show Subi Recreational Reserve must be preserved FOREVER. Many former WA Premiers understood its value - PRICELESS.

Protect our school spaces & STOP the unnecessary land grab of our precious public asset. We believe there is a much better plan for Subi East which is healthy, sustainable and will preserve a priceless inner city reserve for all. Our plan aligns with the community and council plans and decisions as per the council approved North Subiaco Structure Plan and the Kitchener Common Master Plan and will

✅✅💯YIMBYs – YES we are!! We wonder why Subi-Shenton Park needs a YIMBY group. New dwellings are being delivered at a rate above government density targets for Perth & [email protected].

✅✅💯We have always supported the addition of all 2,000+ new dwellings in Subi East (old Subi Nth). What we haven't supported is using large sections of a recreational reserve to do so - even if that is something some developers and their lobby groups desired for their large luxury apartments. 🤑🤠🤑 There was always a better, sustainable, healthier and safer way to deliver this Government's additional infill requirements, that also aligned with Council and community strategic plans. One that made sure essential infrastructure, like active playing fields, was delivered. For example, like the successful Subi Centro development which sank the railway line. That would have also vastly improved connectivity for Subi/West Leederville residents. Early on Dev WA knocked that back as it wasn't in the Labor Govt cabinet approved secret Business case. Questions to Dev WA and even in parliament failed to gain access to what exactly was in the $227M business case and tick box style "consultation" continued.

There is much to unpick in this front-page article POST Newspapers- some for another day. We can confirm Dan Caddy MLC has never reached out to our group nor to any other similar group or ratepayer style group we know of in at least two electorates. We would have so welcomed him.

We are concerned that Dan Caddy MLC is a member of the Select Committee that is reporting and inquiring into land development and planning. The Committee's Terms of Reference include inquiring on decisions made by the WAPC (Dad (David) chaired and led) and Dev WA - including the Subi East Development. Dan's partner, Penny Taylor is also the former Mayor of Subi/past Labor Candidate for Nedlands and is likely to be a key figure and/or person of interest if an investigation is recommended into this redevelopment. And YES we support a full investigation. Conflict of interest?

A branch of the YIMBY prodevelopment lobby has strong links to the Labor Party that is pushing for high density in the western suburbs.

Subiaco-Shenton Park YIMBY attracted fewer than 15 people to a meeting at Found Brewery on Monday.

They included Labor MLCs Katrina Stratton and Dan Caddy, and a group of Labor election campaigners.

YIMBY is an acronym for Yes In My Back Yard.

The group’s founder Emily Williams and fellow members Matthew Mowe and Leonie Allison were recent Labor campaign volunteers.

“It’s a Labor front,” said Peter McDonald, co-convenor of the 450-strong Shenton Park Planning Action Group.

🙁👎😭The Commissioner for Children and Young People WA report has just been tabled in Parliament. One area of concern is around 1/4 of our children aged between 5 and 17 are overweight or obese. This stat has not improved. The report states, "Most cases of being overweight or obese are related to poor diet and low levels of physical activity."

Why then would any government sell off huge chunks of a vital recreation reserve to an offshore developer for their large luxury apts? The Malaysian govt developer is also promoting their apts at various overseas events to overseas buyers.....

The City of Subiaco already has a known undersupply of active playing fields at current population levels which has seen children turned away from their chosen sport at a FULL Rosalie Park. For any level of govt to consider selling off a former "A" class reserve makes zero sense, and one must wonder where their priorities lie 🤠🤑🤑🤑 A full investigation into the Subi East redevelopment must occur. Neil Thomson MLC - Mining and Pastoral Region Dr Brad Pettitt MLC Amanda Dorn - Animal Justice Party MP

Other extracts from this report sadly include:
"Less than two-thirds (61%) of Australian two to five-year-olds get enough exercise each day, dropping to 11% for 13-14-year-olds. Meanwhile, at least two-thirds (65%) of children across all age-groups exceed the daily limit of sedentary screen time (Table 24)."

"While most of the serious health effects of excess weight are not seen until children become adults, the diet and exercise habits established in childhood often carry into adulthood. This means that the one-quarter of today’s children and young people who are overweight or obese are at risk of serious health conditions in the future."

We have included the extract in full on this topic in the comments.

Today I tabled the 2026 Profile of Children and Young People in WA in State Parliament.

The Profile highlights emerging trends affecting children and young people across Western Australia, including developmental concerns in the early years, declining wellbeing as children grow older and increasing mental health challenges.

Too often our systems respond when children are already experiencing distress.

If we want to improve outcomes for children and young people, we must invest earlier in supporting children and families.

You can read the full Profile on our website.

🧐🤔❌We wonder why so many submissions are not publicly available.

Is there something to hide? Corruption? Misconduct?

Will any groups or individuals involving controversial projects and decisions in the Western Suburbs be called to give evidence by this Inquiry?

We believe a full public investigation is required into every aspect of the Subiaco East redevelopment.

If you can't see your submission, like others, please follow it up with Committee staff members.

👍✅💯We think this article by Bret Christian Post Newspaper raises some excellent points including:

Structure and strategy plans that councils and community's worked hard on (and at considerable expense) to meet Perth & Peel at 3.5M are apparently not good enough for some in the Roger Cook Labor Government. 🚮🪠🚽 Why? Developer mates lobbying? Promises of more donations and/or good press?

According to the recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald developers are focused on the million $$$$$ plus market. It concludes developers are likely to be 😂😂"laughing all the way to the bank" building luxury 💲🤑🤠💲 high end apartments. The kicker is that many affordable options are being demolished to do so!! Note: UEM Sunrise (Govt selected Subi East skyscraper developers) held special events in Malaysia and Singapore targeting overseas investors and offering support "at every stage of their journey". Will many of these luxury high end apartments sit empty, like they do any many parts of the world?

We know the City of Subiaco is on track re its Perth & Peel target.

We know our roads (and other infrastructure) are struggling/congested and not fit for purpose nor safe. Pedestrians and our school kids and their family's deal also deal with not fit for purposes pathways/crossing points/bike paths/drop off points. There are too many near misses, serious injuries and much much worse fatalities. ☹️😭 Sadly another school kid lost their life this week - see article News.com.au in this post.

What we don't know is why Roger's Labor Government and its Ministers and bodies are failing to respect council and community plans to meet and even go beyond Perth & peel targets.......No "circle of dooms" are warranted or required!!

Committee Details - Inquiry 28/02/2026

🤔😲🫣We are hearing many submissions to the Upper House (LC) Committee into Land Development and Planning have been given a "private" status and are not included on the list of over 450 submissions made to the Committee. When you look at the numbering there are many many gaps...... https://www.parliament.wa.gov.au/parliament/commit.nsf/0/1871563B966B96F948258CE600223BB3

We are also hearing reports that many never received an email advising receipt of and what status their submission was given. Technical glitch? If you are in this category we urge you to check with the Committee to ensure your submission is included etc.

We also understand "private" status means you must not share or make public your submission. If you chose to do so it may constitute a contempt of Parliament loss of parliamentary privilege. 😱😳😯 ??? Why so many have been assigned a "private" status. ??? Why so much secrecy. We also understand you can request the Committee to assign your submission a "public" status.

This Committee is basically controlled by a majority of members who are Labor aligned and/or preference each other/often vote together. Will political party allegiance/alignment affect majority Committee decision making including outcomes? Are there any conflict of interests (including perceived) in members who have been appointed to this Committee? Will that affect theirs's and others decision making?

We believe a full investigation is required into all aspects of decision making in Subi East including the City of Subiaco and WAPC (e.g. changes to School Planning policy). We believe there are key meetings/decisions at the City of Subiaco which must also be fully investigated. For example, meetings between the State and former Mayor on key rewording/changes made to the then secret Memorandum of Understanding instigated by the then Planning Minister (Saffioti). Were councillors fully informed?

🥲🥺😭If you have been following this page you have seen us highlight the Commissioner for Children and Young People WA disturbing reports on the decline in wellbeing for Australian girls. These findings are not new. Nature Play WA

Girls have been saying similar things for years and years. So why did some within government continue to support and bulldoze thru a design that is experimental, controversial and faced widespread opposition from many within our schools (including educators) and the community? WACSSO: Representing P&Cs in WA

Subi East is likely to produce another disaster for our girls health, wellbeing and safety (boys too...). Controversial and unnecessary placement of high-rise high-end apartments/dining etc. integrated into the edge of a school oval will not make many girls feel comfortable/safe nor encourage more physical activity before and after school.

At Subi East there has already been disturbing incidents (e.g. naked man watching/running past during PE) at an experimental school/community space. Children's health, wellbeing and safety should have come first not offshore company's desires and profits to build large luxury apartments. UEM Sunrise

The previous reports by the Commissioner illustrated adolescent girls need to feel safe and away from prying eyes etc. We hope the Upper House enquiry into planning recommends an enquiry into all the decision making at Subi East. As per WWLRA please see some templates/ideas (also see comment) for your submission to the Upper House Parliamentary Committee formed to investigate land development and the planning system.

We believe the role and decision making of the State and their agencies (including the WAPC, Development WA) needs to be fully investigated with regards to the Subi East Redevelopment area.

You can also gain some extra points from our previous submissions and posts. For example:

1) the sale of large parts of a former 'A' Class Reserve in a local govt area with a known significant shortage of Sport Space/Green Space does not constitute orderly and proper planning. The resulting undersupply of Sport Space will fail to provide for the health and wellbeing needs of future residents. It is also against the then approved City of Subiaco local structure plan which was extensive consulted in 2016/2017 and submitted to WAPC in 2017. That plan had met all Perth & [email protected] density targets.

2) You may also like to include a request for a full investigation into all school planning related decisions in Subi East. Why is there inconsistencies between Subi East precincts (Oval v old PMH site) and why didn't Dev WA update the Oval planning documents after changes were made at PMH? Why did State authorities allow skyscrapers integrated into the edge of a school oval for the first time in WA (we think a world first) against widespread spread concern and opposition? Opposition to this school planning WA First (confirmed by former Education Minister Sue Ellery) was demonstrated by 1000's who signed the parliamentary petition, wrote submissions and the 100s of P&C delegates who supported the P&C motions at the WACSSO (group who represents most public school P&Cs) State Conference. These motions called for a pause at Subi East until distinct consultation on WA school planning firsts occurred with all school stakeholders (this didn't happen).

Closes this Friday, October 31.

🚨We need your Submissions🚨
We have seen repeated approvals in the Town of Cambridge by State Planners that are wholly inconsistent with the local planning frameworks. This means all the intent of those Plans and the community input that went into shaping them is being disregarded. Developers are getting the green light to make profit and build high, intense developments in places (or scales) never dreamt of... which is changing the character of our suburbs and placing all the community under strain (roads, schools, parks , sports facilities etc).

HAVE YOUR SAY in the State Inquiry into land development and planning in Western Australia.
📍Deadline is this Friday, 31 October📍
The comments below have some example submissions to copy, paste, and modify as you feel is appropriate. Everyone in your household can submit a separate submission, it's a numbers game.
Submissions can be made here, very quick and easy to do:

We believe Minister Saffioti was also a key player at Subi East.
That saw part of a former 'A' reserve sold off to Malaysian Government developers worsening green/sport space shortage.
It also saw an experimental school design which integrates skyscrapers (inc mixed use) into the edge of school spaces (oval).
Full investigation required.

Rita Saffioti won’t even tell us where the “Made in WA” stickers are made.

The farce of secrecy, redaction and refusal to answer legitimate questions continues with the State Government refusing to tell the WA public what percentage of local content manufacturing goes into the C-series trains.

Pages and pages of redacted Freedom of Information requests and non-answer after non-answer in Parliament show the astonishing arrogance of WA Labor.

This is your money - not Rita Saffioti’s.

The Transport Minister / Treasurer has signed WA up buy 246 railcars over 10 years at significant expense and won’t even answer the most basic questions about her claims.

WA government's NIMBY-busting planning laws set for scrutiny 17/08/2025

Since when has the community been "anti development". Carey

The community worked hard to identify, plan and agree on areas to meet all State Govt Infill requirements under Perth and Peel at 3.5 million.

The Subi Oval area, including Kitchener Park (now Bob Hawke College), was identified by the City of Subi as a rare and vital recreation reserve that could have been saved to address severe shortages in active playing fields in the City. That also aligned with its previous "A" class reserve status that was granted in the early 1900's under WA's first Labor Premier (Henry Daglish). A City plan, including the Kitchener Common Masterplan, was developed on this basis and submitted to the WAPC.

It is also strange how Minister Carey seems so anti council and community.......didn't Minister Carey call for the DAPs be be abolished when he was a councillor at the City of Vincent 🤔 Strange times indeed.......ABC Perth

WA government's NIMBY-busting planning laws set for scrutiny Planning reforms the Cook government says were brought in to combat "nay-sayers" and "NIMBYs" are set to be put under the microscope by an upper house committee.
