Ever wandered through one of U of A’s older buildings, like Corbett Hall, and felt a shiver?

Before you go looking for a ghost, you might want to check the boiler room first.

U of A researcher Kyle Scatterty is studying infrasound, low-frequency sound waves that can come from old pipes, ventilation systems and air conditioning. A recent study found that people unknowingly exposed to infrasound were more irritable and had increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
