🚴‍♀️ 3 June marks World Bicycle Day – a global celebration of cycling as a healthy, sustainable, and accessible means of transport.

💪 This year, we cycled across Ottawa under the theme “Ride Together, Grow Stronger”.

👩‍🎓 We were delighted to welcome students from the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est joining us in recognition of International Children's Day, celebrated on 1 June as we combined this two UN events. Youths had the opportunity to take part in a raffle and win wonderful prizes generously provided by the embassies of United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Austria and Spain.

🇵🇱 World Bicycle Day is celebrated annually thanks to the efforts of Professor Leszek Sibilski, a Polish-American sociologist and activist whose initiative led to its official recognition by the United Nations in 2018.

With Poland being one of the signatory countries of the UNESCO initiative ,,Bicycle for All: Bicycle for Sustainable and Healthy Lifestyles” we were pleased to be joined by representatives of the other signatory countries: Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Austria.

📃 We were honoured to receive a proclamation handed to Ambassador Witold Dzielski by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Ottawa, Jeff Leiper and Councillor Teresa Kavanagh, declaring 3 June 2026 as World Bicycle Day in Ottawa. Notably, Canada Capital city was the first one in the world to officially recognise World Bicycle Day.

🌳 Our sincere appreciation goes to the National Capital Commission, represented by CEO Tobi Nussbaum, for its stewardship of the region’s extensive network of pathways, parks, and green spaces, which make events such as this possible.

🤝 We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of this year’s partners and supporters for their commitment to promoting cycling, active transportation, and community engagement. Special thanks to the European Union National Institutes for Culture and Spain, which currently holds the chairmanship of EUNIC in Ottawa.

🚲 We would also like to recognise Vélo Canada Bikes and Bike Ottawa, whose advocacy and educational initiatives continue to advance cycling and active transportation across our communities.

🌟 Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you on Ottawa’s roads, pathways, and trails!

Honouring the veterans of Monte Cassino, reflecting on their sacrifice, and remembering those who fought for freedom were at the heart of a commemorative ceremony held at the National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire, Québec, on 31 May.

🇵🇱🤝🇨🇦 Ambassador Witold Dzielski spoke about the courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood in arms of those who served, as well as the enduring bonds forged between Poles and Canadians through shared service and a common commitment to freedom. Together with Poland’s Consul General Izabela Fabjańska-Potapczuk and Military Attaché Captain (Navy) Paweł Podgórny, we paid tribute to the Polish servicemen and women whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire future generations.

A commemorative bench dedicated to the memory of the Battle of Monte Cassino and the Polish veterans resting in the cemetery was unveiled, an initiative of the Polish War Veterans Society of Marshal J. Piłsudski.

Our sincere thanks go to the Last Post Fund - Fonds du Souvenir for its stewardship of the National Field of Honour and its unwavering commitment to preserving the memory of those who served.

We also thank all those engaged in making the event a success, as well as the participants, including the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, Speaker of the House of Commons, the Canadian Armed Forces, The Royal Canadian Legion, Service de police de la Ville de Montréal - SPVM, clergy, and members of Polonia organisations. The presence of the centenarian veterans made this commemoration especially meaningful.

🔢 Poland’s strong scientific traditions in physics, mathematics, and cryptography provide a solid foundation for the country to be an active contributor to this area of research and its implementation.

🇵🇱 Digital sovereignty, and the role quantum technologies play in becoming a new pillar of critical infrastructure protection, are at the heart of Poland’s Quantum Policy, implemented by the government and the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

🛡️ By helping shape Europe’s and the world’s technological future and developing a robust research and industrial ecosystem, Poland sees quantum technologies as an important opportunity for both national security and a modern, competitive economy.

Defence industry cooperation, strategic outlooks, investment priorities, and new business opportunities arising from the growing partnership between Poland and Canada were at the centre of the “Polish–Canadian Defence Industry Forum”, opened by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at the Polish Embassy in Ottawa, as well as at the discussion panel “Poland: NATO’s Defence Investment Powerhouse” at CANSEC - Canada's leading defence, security & emerging technology event.

💬 The forum and panel brought together officials responsible for defence procurement, capability development, and modernisation priorities, including Undersecretary of State Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets Konrad Gołota, Patrick Kelly of Canada’s Defence Investment Agency, Col. Bogdan Frasoński of Poland’s Armament Policy Department, Col. S.A. Thompson of Canada’s Department of National Defence, Scott Davy of Public Services and Procurement Canada, Vice President of the Management Board of the Polish Armaments Group Jan Grabowski, and John Bason, representing WB ELECTRONICS - reflecting the growing importance of government-to-government and industry cooperation between both countries.

🇵🇱🤝🇨🇦 As noted by Minister David McGuinty, Poland’s approach to defence policy offers an important example of determined and decisive action. Poland’s defence sector continues to grow, while strengthening ties between Poland and Canada creates new opportunities that will benefit both countries.
