ATLANTIC JAZZ NIGHTS PRESENTS:
'YOUNG LIONS'
Every generation produces a handful of musicians whose talent arrives fully formed years ahead of schedule. This concert brings together two of them. Trumpeter and composer Skylar Tang grew up steeped in jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area, absorbing Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock from her father's record collection before she'd even picked up a horn. By her teens she was winning national composition honors and playing alongside the SFJAZZ Collective and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; since moving to New York to study at Columbia University, she's recorded with Joshua Redman and led her own quartet through major festivals, including a recent stop at the 2026 Montreal Jazz Festival.
Behind the kit is Ethan Oliver, a drummer from Garner, North Carolina, now in his second year at The Juilliard School. A three-time Outstanding Drummer Award winner at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington competition, Oliver has already shared stages with Sean Jones, Jason Moran, Gerald Clayton, and Joshua Redman, and toured as far afield as South Africa and South America.
Together, at just 20 and 19 years old, Tang and Oliver represent the extraordinary depth of young talent now shaping jazz's next chapter, a rare chance to hear tomorrow's headliners tonight!
