LITTER AND PAY: 190 FINES ISSUED

Municipal Councils across Fiji have issued 190 litter fines since the increased $200 fixed penalty took effect under the Litter (Amendment) Act 2026.

Fines issued:

* Nasinu Town Council: 45
* Sigatoka Town Council: 39
* Lautoka City Council: 70
* Suva City Council: 21
* Nausori Town Council: 9
* Nadi Town Council: 6

Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Lynda Tabuya, commended councils for enforcing the law.

“Our laws are not decorations. Litter and pay. If you throw rubbish into our streets, drains, rivers or public spaces, expect a $200 fine.”

She urged all councils to maintain enforcement and public awareness.

“Council workers deserve respect. Your rubbish is your responsibility.”

“Keeping Fiji clean starts with each of us. Respect our communities. Protect our vanua. Put rubbish where it belongs.”

Here is what you need to know:
1️⃣ All price-controlled items must stay strictly within the maximum authorized price set by FCCC.

2️⃣ Always verify current price limits using the official Master Price List on our website.

3️⃣ Traders are required by law to maintain accurate records supporting their operational costs.

FCCC officers are actively monitoring markets and intensifying surveillance across all divisions to keep trade fair for every Fijian family.

🌿♻️ SIGATOKA TOWN COUNCIL LITTER OFFICERS REFRESHER TRAINING

Sigatoka Town Council’s Litter Officers participated in a Refresher Training Session conducted by the Ministry of Environment at the Sigatoka Town Council Chambers.

The training provided an opportunity for officers to refresh their knowledge and understanding of litter enforcement, legal procedures, issuing litter infringement notices, and their responsibilities in ensuring compliance with litter laws and regulations.

The session also highlighted the importance of effective enforcement, public awareness, and cooperation in addressing littering within Sigatoka Town and its surrounding areas.

Litter Officers play a vital role in protecting our environment, maintaining cleanliness, and promoting responsible waste disposal practices. Through continued training and collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Sigatoka Town Council remains committed to strengthening litter enforcement and creating a cleaner, healthier, and more attractive town for residents, businesses, and visitors.
