Pinktober 2026 | Raising Awareness, Inspiring Action

The Ministry of Civil Service proudly joined the global observance of Pinktober, with staff showing their support for breast cancer awareness through participation in activities and wearing pink in solidarity.

Pinktober serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection, regular screening, and supporting those affected by breast cancer. Through this observance, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to promoting health, wellbeing, and a supportive workplace culture.

Strengthening Human Resource Excellence Across the Public Service!

On 29 October 2026, the Ministry of Civil Service hosted a Human Resources Forum at the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS), Nasese, bringing together HR practitioners from across Government ministries and agencies.

The forum provided a platform to discuss key HR priorities, share best practices, and strengthen collaboration across the Public Service.

By fostering stronger partnerships and building HR capability across Government, the Ministry of Civil Service continues to drive a professional, responsive, and future-ready Public Service that delivers quality services for all Fijians.

🇫🇯🤝🇰🇷 Strengthening Civil Service capacity and capability

The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service, Mr Pita Tagicakirewa, today received development assistance from His Excellency Kwon Young-Seup, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Fiji, on behalf of the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS).

The assistance includes a new Computer Laboratory equipped with 20 computers, three vehicles, solar panels, generators, and a water tank, which will support training delivery, digital learning, and the operational needs of FLIPS.

The Ministry of Civil Service and FLIPS sincerely thank the Government and people of the Republic of Korea for their generous support and continued partnership in strengthening Fiji's public service.

The Ministry of Civil Service (MCS) was part of the capacity-building workshop convened by the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission (FHRADC) on 28 October 2026 at the Novotel Convention Centre, Lami: “𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗷𝗶: 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀.”

The event featured keynote addresses from three distinguished leaders, including Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Mr. Pita Tagicakirewa, who highlighted the critical role civil servants play in driving a professional, accountable, and inclusive public sector.
Supported by key partners including the Solicitor General’s Office, OHCHR, and UNDP; the workshop focused on:
📌Building human rights capacity across government agencies.
📌Embedding accountability and non-discrimination into public service delivery.
📌Empowering duty bearers to apply human rights principles in their daily work.

Strategic & Risk Management Programme | 22–23 October 2026

The Ministry of Civil Service continues to invest in building a capable, resilient, and future-ready Fiji Public Service through ongoing professional development opportunities for Civil Servants.

On 22–23 October 2026, Civil Servants participated in a two-day Strategic and Risk Management Programme at the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS), Nasese. The programme strengthened participants' understanding of strategic leadership, risk assessment, systems thinking, and evidence-based decision-making in an increasingly complex operating environment.

Throughout the programme, participants explored practical approaches to identifying and managing risks, developing strategic responses to workplace challenges, fostering a positive risk culture, and aligning decision-making with organisational priorities and long-term objectives.

Facilitated through the ETHOS programme and supported through the partnership between Australia Awards Fiji and the Ministry of Civil Service, the training reinforces the commitment to strengthening leadership capability and public sector performance across the Fiji Public Service.

By equipping Civil Servants with the skills to anticipate challenges, manage uncertainty, and make informed strategic decisions, the programme contributes to building a more adaptive, responsive, and effective public service for all Fijians.

Leading Today. Inspiring Tomorrow.

From 19-23 October 2026, the Ministry of Civil Service proudly hosted the Women in Public Service Leadership Program (Senior Cohort) at the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS), Nasese, bringing together senior women Civil Servants and ChangeMakers from across the Fiji Public Service.

The programme was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service, Mr. Pita Tagicakirewa, who reaffirmed the important role of women leaders in driving innovation, strengthening institutions, and advancing a high-performing and future-ready Civil Service.

As the first component of the Fiji Public Service Leadership Initiative, the programme focuses on strengthening executive judgement, strategic influence, leadership presence, and public service stewardship, equipping participants with the skills and confidence to lead positive change across government.

Delivered in partnership with Australia Awards Fiji, the Australia-Fiji Governance Partnership, the Fiji Program Support Platform (FPSP), and Griffith University, the initiative supports women leaders at the Emerging, Middle, and Senior Leadership levels, creating pathways for growth, mentorship, and leadership excellence throughout the Fiji Civil Service.

Facilitated by Professor Susan Harris Rimmer and Associate Professor Amie Shaw of Griffith University, the Senior Cohort has provided a valuable platform for learning, reflection, collaboration, and professional exchange.

As participants return to their respective ministries and agencies, they do so better equipped to lead with confidence, purpose, and impact, contributing to a stronger, more inclusive, and future-ready Fiji Civil Service.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Ministry of Civil Service, Fiji Delegation Benchmarks Public Sector Excellence in New South Wales, Australia.

From 2nd to 4th September 2026, as part of the ongoing Functional Review of the Fiji Civil Service, our Permanent Secretary recently led a delegation of three senior officers on an official benchmarking mission to New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

Hosted by the NSW Government in partnership with the Australian High Commission in Suva, this strategic engagement focused on modernizing public administration, organizational design, and workforce capability.

During the visit, our team engaged in high-level collaborative sessions with key NSW public sector agencies, including:
1. Premiers Department
2. NSW Public Service Commissioner (PSC)
3. The Cabinet Office
4. Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development
5. Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure

A notable highlight of the mission was a courtesy visit with the Acting Premier of New South Wales, Minister for Education and Early Learning, and Minister for Western Sydney, The Hon. Prue Car, MP. Discussions centered on shared governance priorities, innovative service delivery models, and strengthening institutional partnerships between Fiji and New South Wales.

Insights and best practices gathered from this exchange will directly support the implementation of robust, citizen-centric workforce frameworks under the Fiji Civil Service reform agenda.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the NSW Government and the Australian High Commission, Fiji for facilitating a productive and impactful program.
