Police Ombudsman, Jacqui Durkin, was pleased to be at today’s Power to Change launch and to hear from inspiring speakers, particularly those with lived experience of the offline consequences of online words.
Today we launched Phase 2 of Power to Change – our campaign with the The Executive Office and Department of Justice NI challenging the attitudes, behaviours and beliefs that contribute to violence against women and girls.
This next phase takes the conversation online, focusing on the spaces where harmful attitudes can be formed, shared and normalised – from social media and group chats to gaming platforms, comment sections and influencer culture.
At the launch event today we heard why challenging misogyny early matters – and the role we can all play in setting a different standard.
Phase 2 asks men and boys in particular to question what they see, challenge harmful attitudes and think about the standard they want to set – online and offline.
Online words have offline consequences.
