All around the world, this is a time for remembering those who have left us and those who have gone before. In El Salvador and across Central America, 2nd November is Día de los Difuntos, the Day of the Dead. Families gather, visit their loved ones and share the food that keeps their memory close.

That’s why we’re delighted to welcome our wonderful Latinas Karen and Berenice into the kitchen. They’re cooking Ayote en Miel, the famous dessert made for this time of year: tender pumpkin slowly simmered in a sweet, spiced syrup. It’s cooked with love, in memory of those who are no longer with us and the souls who have departed. This is a warm and meaningful Central American tradition and we’re proud to showcase it at our cultural community lunch. ¡Mil gracias, queridas!

First, Abdullah brings us a proper Kurdish feast: Bamya, okra simmered in a rich tomato sauce, served with Sawar, nutty cracked bulgur wheat. Hearty, warming comfort food at its best.

Across St Helens, families are already feeling the pressure of rising bills, stretched household budgets and the cost of everyday essentials. For many residents, support such as Universal Credit, PIP and help for children with special educational needs can make a real difference to their quality of life.

With the Budget approaching, we're hearing more and more calls for cuts to benefits and essential support. But behind every proposed cut are real people, families and communities who could be affected.

Support for disabled people, children with special educational needs and families on low incomes helps people live independently, access education, find work and contribute to their communities - when people have more money in their pockets, our local shops and businesses benefit too.

We believe the focus should be on investing in people, protecting essential services and making sure those with the broadest shoulders contribute their fair share.

Because a stronger economy should mean stronger communities, not more people being pushed into hardship.

A year ago, the RSF entered El Fasher in Sudan after an 18 month siege, in an attack which killed 10,000 people over two days and the UN found had the "hallmarks of genocide".

Last year, UK arms were found in RSF hands in Sudan. The RSF is backed by the UAE: a big importer of UK weapons.

Just 27 new direct jobs, while the climate crisis continues to worsen.

Following the events of this year’s annual Green Party conference, we at the St Helens Green Party would like to weigh in on the motion and make our stance completely transparent.

We at the St Helens Green Party have long been committed to advocating for the safety and freedom of all. We will continue to stand up for human rights, welcome every part of our community, and continue to choose principles over political convenience. Healthy politics allows space for differing views, but listening to debate cannot mean staying silent on systemic oppression. After reviewing this statement, we consider our beliefs align with the Jewish Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA). We vehemently oppose antisemitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of discrimination completely. Our opposition to Zionism stems directly from our desire for safety, equality, and freedom for everyone.

To every resident of St Helens, we say to you as the St Helens Green Party: you are valued, you are welcome and you are safe in our community. This includes everyone, of any faith or none. We vow to make St Helens a fairer, safer and more inclusive place for everyone.

David Yeates grew up in 1970s Ashton-in-Makerfield knowing he was different, but not knowing why. In early adulthood he discovered he was the son of Steve Belcher, a black Gl based at Burtonwood Air Base. In 2002, David travelled to Atlanta to meet his father for the first time, took a DNA test, and was welcomed into his extended African American family.
