This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honour those who fought for the rights we enjoy today, and stand in solidarity with everyone still facing discrimination, prejudice and inequality.
Pride is about visibility, acceptance and the freedom to be yourself without fear. Itβs a reminder that diversity makes our communities stronger, kinder and more vibrant.
St Helens Green Party is proud to stand alongside our LGBTQ+ residents, members and supporters. Not just during Pride Month, but all year round. β€οΈπ§‘ππππ

St Helens Green Party is proud to announce Amber Johnson as its candidate for the Haydock by-election on Thursday 25th June 2026.
Amber is an energetic and committed local campaigner. She works in the ward and has built strong relationships with residents from a wide range of backgrounds. She is known for listening, engaging and taking action on local issues.
Amber is an experienced grassroots organiser. She has been active in canvassing, door knocking and organising local campaign days. She has spoken directly with residents at events across the area. She is also a graduate of the Young Greensβ 30 Under 30 training programme.
Amber is passionate about:
* Reducing the cost-of-living crisis
* Protecting and improving local green spaces
* Standing up for families and young people
* Building stronger, more connected communities
* Greater transparency and accountability in local government
On her candidacy, Amber said:
βAfter living in Haydock for 5 years, I see and have lived the issues local residents face. I am a passionate and dedicated young woman who feels that especially now, a voice like mine on the local council would benefit all residents.
Haydock holds a very special place in my heart and always will. St Marks Church Local Food Pantry was there for me throughout my early motherhood journey. The local people, parks and nature wrapped me in love whenever I ventured out with my little girl. I enjoy the green spaces when I go for runs and want to protect them for others, as well as for my family.
I feel this is a fantastic opportunity to give back by serving as the wardβs councillor.β
On Thursday 25th June, voters in Haydock have the chance to choose a councillor who listens, works hard, and puts the community first.
Vote Amber Johnson for a fairer, greener Haydock.

A message from our External Communications Officer Amber π
10/05/2026
The results of the local elections on May 7th werenβt the outcome we hoped for, and naturally weβre disappointed to have lost our Green representation on St Helens Council.
But the hard work, passion and dedication shown by our members, candidates, councillors and supporters has not been wasted.
We want to give our heartfelt thanks to our previous Green councillors for the work they have done for their communities, especially David van der Burg and Paul Hooton in Haydock & Allen Makin in Bold & Lea Green, whose fantastic efforts have made a real difference. Their commitment, care and dedication have shown exactly what Green representation can look like at its best.
Over the course of this campaign, weβve knocked on doors in all weather, listened to residents, raised issues that matter, challenged division, and changed minds along the way. Every conversation mattered. Every leaflet delivered mattered. Every vote for Green mattered.
To those elected, we genuinely hope you take your positions seriously and understand the gravitas of the four-year commitment you have signed up to. Local people deserve councillors who listen, engage and work tirelessly for their communities.
St Helens Green Party is not going anywhere. We will continue to fight for people and planet, stand up against oppression and inequality, and choose hope over hate every single time.
Thank you to everyone who supported us, voted for us, campaigned with us, or simply believed that politics can be kinder, fairer and more compassionate.
