Communities Service Cambridge City Cambridgeshire County Council's Communities teams work together alongside the community and partners Place. Communities where people are healthy and feel safe.

We have a Place-based team in Cambridge City who are finding out what services are needed in your neighbourhoods, who's trying to help – and how we can bring like-minded people and groups together to support them. Place Teams are the familiar faces of Think Communities: the go-to people for community engagement and support. Place Co-Ordinator - Jess
Community Connectors - Jo and Karen
Youth Co-Ordinator - Paul

The Think Communities Vision is:

People. System

To build thriving, inclusive communities that take action. Communities that are proud of their local initiatives and invested in their future. Communities where people have the skills, resources, services, knowledge, and expertise they need to help themselves. Our vision is about building communities where people can help themselves and have easy access to appropriate services that meet their needs. To do this, we need to work together with local people, agencies and partners and combine our resources, skills, and local knowledge.

When our teams were first formed to support our communities we were introduced to the Wigan Deal where community played a much bigger part in the support they knew they needed in terms of health, support, and using what assets were available.

Just one very small, but very impactful part of that project, was recognising that many falls that could have been prevented were caused by loose fitting slippers. So simple!

So it's great that our libraries are supporting Slipper Swap Events over the next couple of months. Please share with anyone who might benefit from some free supportive slippers but also a chat about what else is available for them.

You can listen to more from Donna Hall about the work that happened in Wigan in this short video - https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-analysis/videos/donna-hall-wigan-story

If there's anything that you feel you'd like to talk to our team about for your own community please do get in touch via [email protected]

Being a very small team working in Cambridge, we were absolutely delighted to have been able to host a student who was such a great match for the work we do. Stine's understanding of community, her energy and her ideas have already left a lasting impression as we get ready to present our new tracker to the rest of our countywide team that will help us not only track our work but easily start to gauge the ripple effects of the work we do in supporting the voluntary sector to thrive.

Please do take a read of the article and congratulations to Scott who led on this whole project and supported Stine throughout her 6 weeks with Cambridgeshire County Council

This summer, 25 Cambridge University students spent six weeks volunteering full-time with organisations across the city, providing extra support where it's needed most.
