This Halloween…

Regular visitors to the Vickery unit may be familiar with our rather impressive – and ever-growing – collection of rubber ducks.

They've been brought back and donated by customers from their travels and have gradually taken over an entire shelf (… or two!)

But then…

THEY DISAPPEARED.

An empty shelf.
Not a duck in sight.
No ransom note.
No witnesses.

We were preparing to launch a full investigation when the truth emerged…

Lindsey had taken them. 😂

Apparently the ducks were required for an activity with her Cub Scout group and had simply gone on a little adventure of their own.

We're pleased to report that all ducks have now been safely returned to Vickery HQ and normal service has resumed.

Although we're keeping a very close eye on Lindsey from now on. 👀

3 things we hear about water softeners that aren't quite right…

MYTH 1: They're enormous.
Modern systems can often fit neatly beneath a kitchen sink or in another suitable space.

MYTH 2: They need loads of attention.
Once installed, they're designed to quietly get on with the job. Your main regular task is keeping the salt topped up.

MYTH 3: Every house needs exactly the same system.
Definitely not. Household size, water usage, plumbing and available space all matter – which is exactly why Matt carries out a home survey before recommending what's right for you.

Mud season has officially arrived for us again!

Autumn certainly keeps the washing machine (and us!) busy. But here's something soft-water households don't always realise… your detergent matters too.

Many conventional detergents are formulated with hard water in mind, and using more detergent than you need in softened water can contribute to residue on fabrics.

That's why we stock washing powder specifically designed for homes with soft water.

If you've got a softener but your washing – particularly towels – isn't feeling quite as you'd expect, it may be worth looking at what you're putting into the machine.

That white, chalky build-up is one of the most obvious signs of hard water.

You can keep descaling the kettle – but if you're regularly seeing scale there, chances are it's appearing elsewhere in your home too.

A water softener tackles the hard water rather than repeatedly cleaning up what it leaves behind.

A water softener should quietly get on with its job in the background. So if something suddenly seems different, it's worth investigating.

Perhaps:

💧 There's more water than usual in the salt compartment.
💧 Your salt doesn't seem to be going down.
💧 You've noticed limescale beginning to return.
💧 It's making a noise you've never heard before.
💧 Your water just doesn't feel as soft as it normally does.

It doesn't automatically mean you need a new softener. Sometimes there's a relatively straightforward problem that can be repaired.

That's why we always recommend getting it checked rather than ignoring it and hoping it sorts itself out.
