ABOUT THIS PLACE
Holmwood is a family home like no other in Glasgow. Located in the Southside of the city, it’s masterfully designed but surprisingly cosy, with grand imagination behind it. Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson designed the house for paper magnate James Couper and his wife in 1857–8, and it’s widely regarded as this Scottish architect’s finest domestic creation. In Conversation with Jonathan Owen
Friday 19th June, 11am
Holmwood, Glasgow, G44 3YU
Free entry

Join us for a special in-conversation event exploring the installation of works by Jonathan Owen at Holmwood, presented as part of Glasgow International.

Owen makes work by transforming readymade objects that he selects for their implied material and cultural stability. His new installation of marble busts sets up a dialogue with the ornate mid-nineteenth century interiors of Holmwood House.

This event will present the opportunity to hear more about the artist's inspirations, methods of working, and the installation's relationship to Holmwood.

The in-conversation panel will last 40 minutes, followed by a 20 minute Q&A. This event will be free but ticketed.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite - follow the link in the top comment

Jonathan Owen at Holmwood
16th April - 1st Nov
Thurs-Sun, 10am-5pm
(last entry 4pm)

In partnership with Ingleby Gallery, the National Trust for Scotland presents an exciting new installation at Holmwood by artist Jonathan Owen.

A series of Victorian portrait busts has been installed throughout Holmwood. At first glance, they echo the classical architecture and interiors designed by Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson. But look closer, and the alterations to the busts by Owen become apparent.

By carefully and methodically carving into the busts, Owen changes their physical dimensions, appearance and meaning. His work questions the relationships between power, permanence, and cultural memory.

Entry is included with admission (free for members)
