A little appreciation post for our bakers 🙌🎂

Did you know that the cakes and bakes in our Coffee Corner are made by our volunteers? They all do a fantastic job at making delicious looking and tasting sweet treats and we have certainly missed them during our closure! Another example of how strong our community is, our volunteers give up their time and effort and for that we are always grateful!

"Good books bring people together, and good cake makes sure they stay awhile!"

Our temporary accommodation is almost ready to go!
However, the library remains closed for the time being as we are still awaiting connection to some final services. Some clubs are back up and running, please keep an eye on social media or contact the person who runs your particular activity.
As soon as we can fully function as a library once more we will post further information.

Baby Bounce will be taking place in the Scout Hut behind St. Marks Church on Tuesday 13th from 9:30am until 10:15am with free play until 11am. Refreshments will be available (tea/coffee & cake), however it is CASH ONLY please.

Thank you for your continued support ❤

Today is World Mental Health Day 💭💚

World Mental Health Day takes place every year on 10th October. "It reminds us why good mental health is so important, and how we can prioritise it in our lives and communities. It’s also a moment to talk openly and listen to what others are experiencing". - Mental Health Foundation

The theme for 2026 is “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”, calling for peoples voices to shape the policies, services and decisions that affect their lives.

A recent YouGov Survey, commissioned by the Booksellers Association, found that 90% of bookshop visitors say browsing a bookstore has a positive impact on their mood in the moment. The research was released ahead of Bookshop Day and World Mental Health Day to demonstrate the value of physical bookshops to personal and community wellbeing.

At APCL, we understand the importance of reading and community and the effect it has on Mental Health.

Some benefits of reading include:
📚 Encourages mindfulness
📚 Develops empathy
📚 Exercises the brain
📚 Improves self awareness and concentration
📚 Promotes restful sleep
📚 Builds resilience

Our community also provides people with essential social experiences and more as highlighted by some of our volunteers and visitors.

With our current renovation works, we are missing that community and understand that some of you may be feeling that way too. We can't wait to be back with you all soon ❤

Work in Progress 👷🧱🔨🚧🔧

We have been quiet on here recently but that is not a reflection of what has been happing on site! As work progresses and major changes occur, photos will be published regularly to keep everyone up to date.

📸 PHOTO 1

This is the main library hall from where the reception desk was located, looking towards the back wall.

📸 PHOTO 2

This photo is an almost 180’ view from Photo 1. To the left, is the entrance foyer and to the right is the area where Coffee Corner was located.

📸 PHOTO 3

This view shows what was the childrens’ library looking from where the photocopier stood and looking towards the corner where the office used to be.

📸 PHOTO 4

This is the childrens’ library again, but showing the initial investigation into the state of what lies underneath the sloping floor. On the left of the picture is the fire escape and the window on the right is the window that was in the office.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled to see further photos and updates!

Thank you for your continued support during our renovation! ❤️

Moving Out 📦👷🔨

Team APCL have been very busy recently preparing for our renovations to start. There are real changes to be seen as you walk across the green surrounding the library. Work by Houltons is starting this week and we looking forward seeing the progression the project has.

We have been waiting a long time for this work to get underway and we are now finally seeing it come to life! The library is all packed up and stored apart from the necessary items to run our reduced offering from the temporary accomodation.

❤ We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who not only cleared the library but also helped to make the temporary accomodation ready for use.

Please note: There is no doubt that the temporary accomodation is not as large as we would have wished and that this is going to make some activities very difficult to offer. We always knew we would only be able to provide a restricted menu of the library’s services but having now furnished the porta-cabin it seems we may have to consider very carefully what is possible.

❗The porta-cabin is not connected to any utilities and so will REMAIN CLOSED to the public and for club use until this has been completed. Once the utility connections are complete information about re-opening will appear on all our Social Media channels.

Many thanks for all of your support. We look forward to sharing more updates with you as soon as we can! ❤
