East Leeds Project The East Leeds Project is a not for profit, Community Interest Company, focusing on contemporary art

The East Leeds Project is a creative conversation about what life is like in the east of the city, and how it might develop into the future, questioning ideas around community, identity, sustainability, and participation. The project focuses on the corridor of green and blue space following the Wyke Beck route between Roundhay and Rothwell, linking these as one space for artistic exploration. The East Leeds Project intends to respond to deep-seated social challenges and the disconnect between communities on the fringes and the burgeoning city centre. The Wyke Beck route is a wonderful asset that could enhance the lives of residents in some of the most deprived areas of the city, such as Gipton, Harehills, Seacroft and Cross Gates.

One of the community friendly fun activities at our spooky community day.

Alongside a spooky trail we had badge making, cyanotype & a portrait gallery with Lizzie Coombes and Lenslab - part of the ongoing In & Around Henry Barran project.

In & Around Henry Barran Centre is a collaboration between Lens Lab and East Leeds Project.

This is a community photography open call. We want photos of the area around the Centre, taken by the people who know it best: you. Any camera works, a phone is plenty, and you don't need to call yourself a photographer.

There'll be a few free workshops over the coming months (a thermal camera photowalk, a portrait session, and salt printing in the garden), or you can just submit your own photos independently, whichever suits you. Dates of workshop will be organised with input from YOU - when are you available?

This project is in collaboration with Lens Lab Project and Wes Foster, working with groups to help people explore and photograph the places they live, using everything from phone cameras to thermal imaging and old-fashioned printing processes. Selected photos will go up in an exhibition and on project postcards this December.

Submit anytime at http://tally.so/r/814gqY or drop a print in the postbox at Henry Barran Centre. Or get in touch at [email protected]

Looking at East Sides of Cities and why they are so often the underdog or the last bit to be relished by their community.

A little step back in time - taking a look at East Leeds project and Claire Irving and Kerry Harker talking to Same Skies.
Working with not FOR, BY or TO communities.

It's about that voice - everything was designed for people but not with people.
