The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is sad to hear of the passing of the former CPA Chairperson (2011-2014), Rt Hon. Lord Alan Haselhurst (United Kingdom) at the age of 88.

As Sir Alan Haselhurst, he served the CPA for a number of years as both Chairperson of the International CPA Executive Committee and as Chairperson of the CPA UK Branch.

He served as a Member of the UK Parliament over 40 years where he was also Chairman of Ways and Means (Principal Deputy Speaker of the UK House of Commons) and then as a Member of the UK House of Lords.

Last week, delegates from across the Commonwealth met in Cape Town for the 2026 Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities Forum.

They took part in sessions on improving representation for disabled persons in Parliaments, and visited a local disability resource hub.
