Suffolk Conservatives are delighted to welcome Councillor Daniel Potter to the Conservative Party.
Daniel’s decision follows a deeply personal political journey, shaped by his determination to overcome obstacles, make the most of opportunity and give something back to his community.
His commitment to the local environment was one of the reasons he first became involved in politics and ultimately served as a Green Party councillor.
But Daniel says the direction of the Green Party has left him increasingly disillusioned. He believes its focus has moved away from the practical environmental issues that first attracted him — including conservation, biodiversity, cleaner rivers, reducing emissions and exploring alternative sources of energy.
Daniel said:
“I care deeply about our local environment and the communities I represent. But increasingly I felt the Green Party was no longer the party I originally joined. I have become deeply concerned by its direction and no longer have confidence in its leadership.”
Daniel says his decision to join the Conservatives reflects his belief in opportunity, aspiration and enabling people to fulfil their potential — values which have particular significance given his own experiences growing up, going to university and becoming independent.
“I believe in the potential of every individual — whether that means starting a small business, working on a farm, getting the right education or finding a home. The Conservatives understand that people should have the opportunity and encouragement to succeed.”
Daniel has also welcomed the leadership of Kemi Badenoch and her determination to make the case for enterprise, economic growth and personal responsibility.
At a time when Labour’s approach is putting greater pressure on businesses and the public finances, and Reform increasingly offers anger rather than practical answers, Daniel believes the Conservatives must make the positive case for a stronger economy, thriving communities and a more prosperous future.
Daniel added:
“I don’t believe in sitting back and being a spectator. As a District Councillor, I want to get things done for the people I represent. I’m proud to have made this decision and very happy to be joining the Conservative Party.”
Darius Laws, Chairman of South Suffolk Conservative Association, said:
“I’m delighted to welcome Daniel to the Conservative Party. He is a committed local councillor who cares deeply about his community and wants to make a real difference for the people he represents. Daniel brings valuable experience, a strong commitment to our local environment and a belief in aspiration and opportunity. We’re very pleased to have him as part of our Conservative team.”
We look forward to working alongside Daniel as we continue standing up for residents and communities across South Suffolk. 🔵🌳
