On the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of our Republic, we commemorate—with respect, gratitude, and reverence—Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all the heroes of our War of Independence.

The TİKA Gambia Coordinator, Mr. Mehmet Selçuk Karagöz, paid a courtesy visit to Staff Colonel Özgür Sevim, Turkish Military Advisor at the Gambia Armed Forces Military Training School in Fajara.

TİKA’s footprints are visible within the premises of the training school. In previous years, TİKA funded the renovation of the Atatürk Classroom Block, the Atatürk Library and the Gymnasium Complex at the Fajara Barracks.

During the visit, we discussed the possibility of expanding our support, as there is still more to be done to provide good facilities at the school and the barracks.

TİKA Gambia Office attended the National Launch of the Students Revolving Loan Scheme (SRLS) on 27 October 2026 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre.

The Scheme and its Endowment Fund were launched by the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Muhammed B.S. Jallow. The SRLS is a national initiative under the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology that aims to expand equitable access to higher and tertiary education through student loans.

We thank the SRLS for the kind invitation and wish the Scheme every success in building a sustainable and inclusive higher education financing system for The Gambia.

Today, the TİKA Gambia Office welcomed a delegation from the Gambia Ferry Services, led by Director of Technical Services Mr. Jerreh Badjie.

The delegation met with our Coordinator, Mr. Mehmet Selçuk Karagöz, to discuss possible areas of cooperation. The talks focused on technical and administrative support to strengthen institutional capacity and build the skills of GFS personnel.

We thank Mr. Badjie and his team for their visit and look forward to exploring how we can work together for greater operational efficiency and institutional development.

We were honoured to host a four-member delegation led by Chief Fire Officer Masaneh SK Bah, together with Assistant Chief Fire Officers Ahmad Janha and Pateh Gibba, and Station Officer Ebrima Bah, the Service’s Press Officer.

This visit is not the beginning of our cooperation with GFRS. In 2022, in partnership with Konya Metropolitan Municipality, TİKA trained 30 GFRS fire officers in basic firefighting skills. More recently, TİKA funded the participation of two GFRS fire officers in the International Firefighting Workshop and Drill Exercise held in Konya, Türkiye, from 28 September to 1 October 2026.

Today’s discussions focused on exploring further areas of collaboration and building on what we have already started together, to strengthen the safety and resilience of communities across The Gambia.

We thank the delegation for their time and for their daily dedication to protecting lives and property.

Strong institutions are built by capable people, and that was the heart of today’s conversation.

The TİKA Gambia Coordinator Mr. Mehmet Selçuk Karagöz visited Commissioner Famara Jobarteh, Head of the International Affairs Unit of the Gambia Police Force, to explore new ways of working together. The two sides exchanged views on how to deepen cooperation between TİKA and the Gambia Police Force. They gave particular attention to strengthening institutional capacity and developing human resources, which are the foundations of an effective and sustainable police service.

We thank Commissioner Jobarteh for the constructive dialogue and look forward to continuing this partnership in the period ahead.

Today, the TİKA Gambia Coordinator Mr. Mehmet Selçuk Karagöz paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Professor Pierre Gomez, Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology of The Republic of The Gambia.

The discussion focused on supporting the promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and empowering young people through skills training. Equipping youth with practical, market-relevant skills is key to creating opportunities and building a strong future for The Gambia.

We thank the Honourable Minister and his team for their warm welcome and valuable insights. TİKA remains committed to supporting The Gambia in education, skills development and youth empowerment.

Mr. Cherno Amadou Sowe, Auditor General of the National Audit Office of The Gambia, and his team paid a courtesy visit to TİKA Gambia Coordinator Mr. Mehmet Selçuk Karagöz. The visit aimed to explore avenues for cooperation and collaboration to strengthen the capacity of the National Audit Office. The two sides exchanged views on their institutions’ activities in The Gambia and discussed possible areas of partnership.

Mr. Talip Erdoğan, Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Institute, paid a courtesy visit to TİKA Gambia Coordinator Mehmet Selçuk Karagöz. Together we talked about our work in The Gambia and how we can deepen cooperation in culture, education and development.
