His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, ALFRED MENTORE, during a visit to the GEORGETOWN MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL ’s PROMENADE GARDENS this morning formally presented the renewed Key BROOCH to the City of Georgetown to His Majesty King Charles III.

The presentation represents a gesture of honour, respect and warm hospitality, reaffirming Georgetown’s pride in its heritage and its longstanding tradition of welcoming distinguished guests.

MAYOR MENTORE PRESENTS GEORGETOWN’S CHALLENGES AND POLICY SOLUTIONS AT AMAZON CITIES FORUM

His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, accompanied by Councillor Gregory Fraser and Town Clerk Candace Nelson, participated in the Amazon Cities Forum held in Paramaribo, Suriname, on October 28–29, 2026.

During the forum, Mayor Mentore was tasked with presenting a scenario highlighting a particular challenge affecting Georgetown and demonstrating how the Georgetown Mayor and City Council could develop policies, programmes, and practical solutions to address the issue.

The presentation focused on the importance of identifying urban challenges, examining their underlying causes, and formulating effective policies and targeted interventions that can lead to meaningful and sustainable improvements for the city and its residents.

The exercise provided an opportunity to explore how local authorities can use strategic planning, innovative approaches, and collaborative decision-making to tackle municipal challenges, improve service delivery, and strengthen urban development.

Georgetown’s participation in the forum reflects the importance of regional cooperation and knowledge-sharing in developing practical, forward-thinking solutions to the challenges faced by cities across the Amazon region.

BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE MAYOR OF GEORGETOWN

Today, the British High Commissioner Joseph Fisher MBE, paid a courtesy call on His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, at the Office of the Mayor.

The meeting was attended by Councillors Clayton Hinds, Leon Saul, and Kesha Sertima.

The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for engagement between the British High Commission and the Mayor’s Office, reflecting the importance of diplomatic relations, dialogue, economic diplomacy in different sectors and continued cooperation between Guyana and the United Kingdom.
Your Worship was also apprised on the King's Foundation developmental modules and other important matters that needed our accord .

The Georgetown Mayor and City Council welcomes opportunities for cintinued engagement with our international diplomatic partners as the City continues to pursue initiatives that support its development trajectory and the well-being of its citizens.

🌿 MAYOR AND CITY OFFICIALS ENGAGE PROMENADE GARDENS STAFF

Mayor Mentore, Chairman of the City Works Committee; Councillor Georgy Fraser; Chairman of the Finance Committee, Leon Saul; along with Town Clerk Candace Nelson, City Engineer Clovrn Venture, and his deputy, met with staff of the Promenade Gardens to discuss and provide assistance with the ongoing maintenance and improvement works at the Gardens.

The engagement focused on key areas, including the maintenance and upkeep of the toilet facilities, the care of the greenery and landscaping, and the general maintenance of the Gardens to ensure that the space remains clean, attractive, and welcoming to the public.

This initiative underscores the continued commitment of the Mayor and City Council to working closely with staff to address maintenance needs, improve facilities, and preserve the beauty and functionality of the Promenade Gardens for residents and visitors alike.

Your Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, delivered remarks at the launch of the H1RI Foundation, an organisation committed to improving the lives of homeless individuals and residents of disadvantaged communities across Guyana.

The launch marks an important step towards promoting compassion, restoring dignity, the reintegration into the society and creating opportunities for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

In his remarks, the Mayor highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, partnership, and community involvement in addressing social challenges. Initiatives such as the H1RI Foundation serve as a reminder that meaningful change requires the combined efforts of local, regional and national governments, organisations, churches, agencies, communities and individuals working together to uplift those in need.

The Georgetown Mayor and City Council recognises the importance of initiatives that seek to improve living conditions, promote inclusion, and ensure that every individual has an opportunity to live with dignity and hope.
The Chief citizen applaud the initiative and gave committment that resources will be earmarked in the Council’s 2027 budget plans to assist in remedying this concern .
