Father’s Day Message

On behalf of the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown, we extend warm Father’s Day greetings to all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures.

Today, we celebrate the invaluable role that fathers play in shaping families, strengthening communities, and guiding future generations. Your dedication, sacrifices, wisdom, and unwavering support serve as the foundation upon which strong homes and a prosperous society are built.

We recognize and appreciate the countless contributions you make every day, often quietly and selflessly, to nurture, protect, and inspire those in your care.

As we honor fathers across our city and beyond, we wish you a day filled with love, appreciation, and cherished moments with your families.

Happy Father’s Day!

The Mayor and City Council of Georgetown recently received a comprehensive drainage proposal from Engineer Jacobs, outlining an innovative approach to managing the city’s sluices and kokers through advanced technology and real-time offsite monitoring.

As climate change accelerates coupled with rising temperature this brings increasingly unpredictable weather patterns. Hence your Worship the Mayor is of the view that the time is ripe for the Council to view the modernization of our drainage infrastructure as an absolute necessity.

To effectively safeguard the city against flooding and manage water levels sustainably, we must move beyond traditional methods by embracing a hybrid strategy . Such a move will seamlessly integrate smart monitoring technology with crucial human oversight—is critical to securing Georgetown’s water management systems for the present and future generations of our city and by extension Guyana.
