Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, launched the Economic Plan for the Indore Economic Region (IER) at the Madhya Pradesh Urban Growth Conclave 2.0, marking a significant milestone in the State’s journey towards Viksit Bharat@2047.

Prepared by the State Government in collaboration with NITI Aayog and knowledge partners under NITI Aayog’s City Economic Regions (CER) Framework, the Plan outlines a roadmap to transform the Indore Economic Region into a US$ 500–600 billion economy by 2047, aligned with the vision of Samriddh Madhya Pradesh @2047: Sampann, Sukhad, Sanskritik.

Covering eight districts; Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Ratlam, Dewas, Khargone, Khandwa and Shajapur, the plan identifies over 80 transformative projects, more than 20 policy interventions, four strategic development zones and nine priority growth drivers across the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors.

By providing actionable roadmap, the plan aims to accelerate advanced manufacturing in automobiles, EV components, pharmaceuticals and textiles, strengthen agricultural value chains and food processing, unlock the region’s spiritual, cultural and natural tourism potential, and develop integrated transport and logistics networks.

It aims to drive regional economic growth, create employment opportunities and improve quality of life; in turn advancing the vision of Samriddh Madhya Pradesh @2047 and Viksit Bharat@2047.

Dr. Ashok Lahiri, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, visited the Sonpur Bazari Opencast Project (OCP) and the Jhanjra Underground Coal Mine of Eastern Coalfields Limited.

At Sonpur Bazari OCP, he reviewed the status of coal production and the progress of rehabilitation and resettlement of project-affected families. The visit aimed to understand the output and financial performance of the project and to assess how rehabilitation measures are keeping pace with the proposed plans.

At Jhanjra Underground Coal Mine, he observed the mine workings, including the Continuous Miner and Longwall mining operations. The visit helped to gain first-hand understanding of mechanised underground mining technologies and their contribution to safe and efficient coal production.

Dr Ashok Lahiri, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog visited the Raniganj Master Plan rehabilitation project area at Andal, West Bengal.

The visit was to assess the progress of rehabilitation and resettlement work on the ground and understand the facilities available and the needs of the families being rehabilitated.

The Vice Chairman emphasised the need for increased tree plantation and the provision of essential amenities, including schools, shops, a Primary Health Centre (PHC), and a playground for children, at the rehabilitation centre.

Prof. Gobardhan Das, Member, NITI Aayog, addressed the Sustainability Leader Awards 2026 on World Sustainability Day, urging the life sciences community to treat sustainability as a core responsibility rather than an optional extra.

Underlining that health and the environment are inseparable, Prof. Das asked whether human life can truly be protected without protecting the planet that sustains it. He urged the sector to look beyond scientific discoveries, speed and scale, and also consider the resources consumed, including energy, water and solvents, as well as the waste generated in the process.

He also emphasised that sustainability and scientific excellence are partners, and green chemistry can be a good business. He concluded by calling for scientific progress that improves human health while also protecting the environment.

Prof. Gobardhan Das, Member, NITI Aayog, chaired the plenary session at the Emerging Science, Technology, and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC-2026) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This year's Conclave brings together scientists, academic leaders, industry and international partners around the theme "Creative Minds, Catalyzing Science, Empowering Technologies."

Prof. Das underlined the belief that great science and its application for society must advance together. He welcomed Nobel Laureate Sir Richard J. Roberts, a pioneer of molecular biology and Chief Scientific Officer of New England Biolabs, whose discovery of split genes reshaped our understanding of gene expression, cancer and genetic disease. Sir Richard's lecture, "Combating Hunger and Climate Change with Biotechnology", spoke to a challenge of great importance for India and the world.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Das highlighted how discoveries made in the laboratory can help feed a growing world and respond to a changing climate and that the message of science serving society will stay with delegates through the sessions ahead.

NITI Aayog, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), and ASSOCHAM signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) at NITI Aayog, in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Member (Health), NITI Aayog; Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Sarin, Director, ILBS; and senior representatives of ASSOCHAM.

The SOI was signed by Shri Rajib Kumar Sen, Programme Director (Health), NITI Aayog; Dr. A.K. Rastogi, ILBS, and Shri Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM.

The collaboration aims to promote metabolic health and healthy living among industry and corporate populations through early risk identification, preventive interventions, and evidence-based guidance.
