From 12th till 14th October 2026, Ruth DeBrincat and Maria Grazia Pulis from the National Skills Council took part in an Erasmus+ job shadowing experience in Vienna, hosted by OeAD - Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation, alongside Kamen Antoninov Gechev from the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA)

The three day programme explored Austria’s education and lifelong guidance systems, Europass, international cooperation, apprenticeships and skills competitions. It also covered digital and transversal skills, qualifications frameworks, and the validation of non-formal and informal learning (VNFIL).

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with Austrian colleagues and reflect on approaches that could inform Malta’s work in skills development, lifelong learning, and validation

Two representatives from the National Skills Council, Charlene Camilleri and Glorianne Cachia, participated in Cedefop ’s 6th Policy Learning Forum, which brought together policymakers and stakeholders to explore ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of apprenticeship schemes across EU Member States.

Through the exchange of experiences and practices from across Europe, the forum explored how governments, employers, employee representatives and education stakeholders can work together to make apprenticeships more effective, inclusive and attractive.

The event offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on how stronger apprenticeship systems can better meet the needs of both learners and employers.
