As a Local Authority our mandate is to develop the town and uplift its community through the provision of basic services.

Otjiwarongo is considered as one of the oldest towns in Namibia. The town is located in central Namibia. It forms the route axis for trade and cargo movements from the Walvis Bay port to the rest of southern African countries. Otjiwarongo literally is the fork in the routes to the east, north and south of the country as well as across the border. Internationally Otjiwarongo is known as the Cheetah capital of the world and is home to some of the biggest cattle-breeding companies in Namibia. As a Local Authority our mandate is to develop the town and uplift its community through the provision of basic services, the promotion of the town as trade hub and attracting investors.

Dear Residents,

The Municipality of Otjiwarongo would like to inform residents in Otjiwarongo Proper, Extensions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and Good Hope that they may experience low water pressure, intermittent water supply or temporary interruptions in water supply during certain periods of the day.

The Municipality has been experiencing challenges with water distribution and has taken steps to improve the capacity and reliability of the water supply system by procuring new pumping equipment. While this intervention is intended to improve water flow and supply to residents, the implementation of the new equipment is currently subject to technical matters that are being addressed.

Residents in the affected areas are requested to use water sparingly and, where possible, make reasonable provision for essential household water needs. Further updates will be communicated through the Municipality's official communication channels as significant developments occur.

The Municipality appreciates the patience, cooperation, and understanding of residents as work continues towards improving the reliability and consistency of the town's water supply.

The Municipality of Otjiwarongo hereby informs residents and persons keeping animals within the municipal area that animals must not be allowed to roam, graze or remain unattended within the town.

The Municipality has observed instances of animals roaming unattended within the town. Such animals may constitute a public safety hazard and nuisance, including the risk of motor vehicle accidents and damage to properties.
The uncontrolled movement of animals is of additional concern in view of the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in the country. Animal owners are therefore urged to exercise responsible control over their animals and ensure that they are kept away from town.

The Municipality further reminds animal owners that, in terms of the Model Health Regulations, GN 26 of 1955, “No person shall keep anywhere within the municipal area any animal which might constitute a nuisance.” Accordingly, animals found roaming within the town boundary will be impounded, and owners will be charged N$ 367.60 per animal per day, in accordance with the Municipality’s gazetted tariff structure.

Animal owners are therefore urged to immediately cease allowing animals to roam or graze within the town and to take the necessary measures to keep their animals under proper control.

The Municipality urges all concerned to comply with this notice in the interest of public safety, protection of property and the orderly management of the municipal area.
